Canamasas hoping to write fresh GP2 chapter in Baku

Long-awaited Baku City Circuit, which is a new addition to the GP2 Series calendar, hosts round three next weekend. Canamasas, who is a proven Monaco specialist, is looking forward to making his debut in Azerbaijan´s capital. Canamasas expects to quickly become competitive on the streets of Baku and eyes points finish.

The Barcelona-born driver, again at the wheel of a Carlin-entered Dallara GP2/11, scored his first points of the season at his home round, which kicked off the season in May. Canamasas, who took two consecutive podium finishes in the last two years in Monaco, failed to collect new points on the streets of the Principality as he was forced to start from the pit-lane. Despite Monte Carlo is the hardest place to overtake because of its narrow streets Canamasas took centre stage by passing several cars. Baku, with its narrow uphill section at the old town wall, is the fastest urban track but Canamasas remains confident of his strong performance.

“A new track is always exciting for drivers because you need explore limits. That is a bag of extra motivation. It is great to drive for Carlin once again. My goal is to stay focused on being concentrated. It is important to find a good pace in free practice and then coming into qualifying with a good rhythm and a competitive car. But, in my opinion, the key factor is to learn the circuit quickly. It should give us the chance to perform well in qualifying”, Canamasas comments.

Today´s qualifying session will take place at 13.00 (CET). Feature race is scheduled on Saturday at 10.00 (CET) and sprint race is due to start at 12.00 on Sunday.
