Baku Race 1
The GP2 Series Feature Race at the brand-new Baku street course was completed yesterday in the Capital City of Azerbaijan, in a run conditioned by multiple crashes and safety cars.
PHILO PAZ ARMAND
Starting from the back of the grid, Indonesian racer Philo Armand masterfully avoided being involved in a multi-car first lap contact at the start and got up to the 16th position. At the re-start, Philo attacked Swedish rival Malja but made a small mistake while passing him. Losing his braking point, he ended up making contact with the barriers. Despite the disappointment, the race pace was quick and Philo could clearly have completed his comeback to score his first points of the season.
LUCA GHIOTTO
On the other hand, Luca Ghiotto delivered a positive qualifying session and started the feature race from the 5th place. Thanks to an awesome start the Italian, supported by the ACI Team Italia project, quickly claimed third place and held it until the 6th lap. At that point, he went in for his pit-stop which was a really busy one due to the start of a safety-car situation that brought many cars to the pit-lane. Unfortunately, Luca was slowed down on his way in by many of his contenders who had the same strategy. A thing that cost him the third position pushing him back to sixth.
Luca quickly passed two of his rivals, rebounding to fourth, but than suffered from high tire degradation which eventually brought him down to cross the line in P9.
