Motors TV Weekend Highlights June 25,26

If live motorsport from some of the best racing series in the world unfolding before your very eyes sounds like your thing, then you’ve certainly come to the right place.

Top of the billing on the High Speed Television Channel this week is the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, live from Paul Ricard. Acting as the traditional warmup to the season highlight Spa 24 Hours, the six hour race will see a bumper grid of almost 60 GT3 cars racing into the night to get themselves acclimatised to racing with dramatically reduced visibility. Can the WRT Audis get themselves back into the title fight by putting one over on the HTP Mercedes, or can the BMW M6 put the cat amongst the pigeons and take a first Blancpain victory?

Although they’ve dropped the ‘V8’ from their name, the newly-renamed Supercar Championship from Hidden Valley will be no less thrilling than ever. Defending champion Mark Winterbottom tops the points from young pretender Scott McLaughlin in the Volvo heading into the weekend, but Red Bull Racing Australia pair Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes will be within striking distance if he has even a slightly below-par weekend. Are you ready to rumble?

There’s a saying that goes something along the lines of ‘less is more’, and that principle certainly works well in the case of the Norisring, the venue for round five of the FIA European F3 Championship. Positioned on the site of the NSDAP party conventions in Nuremberg, this 1.4 mile street circuit is made up of just two hairpins and two 90 degree corners, but is a driver’s favourite and year on year produces some of the most spectacular racing on the calendar. Once drivers graduate out of F3, very few will get another chance to race at the Norisring, so all will be extra-motivated to take home the silverware.

Over on two-wheels, we’ll have live coverage of the FIM MXGP from Mantova in Italy. After Romain Febvre’s heavy crash ruled him out of both races at Matterley Basin in the UK, Tim Gajser was able to capitalise and take a maximum haul of points to open up an 80-point margin at the top of the standings. Will there be any stopping the Slovenian from taking his first MXGP crown?

Add to that live coverage of the Blancpain GT Sports Club from Paul Ricard, plus MX Nationals from Duns and the unique V8 Utes Racing Series at Winton, and you’ve got yourself a premium weekend of motorsport at your finger-tips. Happy viewing!
