Following disappointing race in Paul Ricard, Top-10 finishes at NürburgringBuhk remains Runner-up in Championship rankings with team-mate Dominik Baumann
Last weekend, the third round of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup took place at the Nürburgring. Following a disappointing race in the 1000km of Paul Ricard the week earlier, the AMG-Team HTP Motorsport driver Maximilian Buhk proofed his strength with a great performance at Nürburgring.
After the early retirement in the long-distance race in the South of France, Buhk showed a great achievement with P4 in Qualifying alongside team-mate Dominik Baumann (A).
Buhk took behind the wheel of the #84 Mercedes-AMG GT3 for the one-hour qualification race on Saturday. After a good start by the Hamburg-based racing driver, he did not see an oil-trail on track and was unable to avoid a spin. He re-joined the race at the back of the field, starting a great fight through the pack. The 23-year-old´s team-mate Baumann was able to continue the good run to come home in a great 10th position after the early throwback.
"We had a good start, but I saw the oil too late and was unable to avoid it“, said Buhk after the Quali-Race. „I was able to control the spin, but was forced to follow the back of the field. Therefore, it is even greater to have achieved tenth place. Dominik (Baumann) had a good drive through the field.2
Baumann started from tenth on the grid into the main race on Sunday. In a hard-fought early stage of the race, Buhk´s Austrian team-mate made up a few positions. Buhk did the second stint and crossed the finishing line in sixth position.
"The team did a great job and thanks to a great strategy we were close to the Top-5", said Buhk after the weekend. „We also did not loose too many points in the championship and are still in second place with a gap of 44 points. We are now focussing on the 24hrs of Spa, which will be the next race."
