Suzuki anounces 2017 RM-Z Motocross machinery

Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced the 2017 RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 production motocross machinery, which have been given a slick and stylish new look.

The highly-acclaimed motorcycles, currently dominating the AMA Pro Motocross Championship in America in the hands of Ken Roczen on his RCH Suzuki Factory Racing RM-Z450, and the RM-Z250 - holding a strong second place in the World MX2 Championship with Jeremy Seewer - feature new-look graphics and black anodised rims, triple clamps and new seat colours.

Suzuki has stayed with its winning formula for 2017; utilising the data gathered from the race tracks by its global factory riders and teams.

Specifications for the 2017 RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 are:

RM-Z450 Key Features:

• 449cm3 4-stroke liquid-cooled DOHC 4-valve fuel-injected engine developed to deliver phenomenal idle-to-redline thrust.

• Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) is a selectable launch mode system derived straight from factory race bike. S-HAC helps the rider in launching from starting gate for an early lead. S-HAC has three selectable modes so riders can choose the best option for the conditions and their skill level.

• Through feedback from the factory racing teams, the piston, piston pin and connecting-rod are developed with use of Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis.

• The piston pin has Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) surface treatment for less friction and increased durability.

• Lightweight, battery-less, motocross-use electronic fuel injection system with progressive throttle linkage makes for efficient power delivery.

• 12-hole fuel injector delivers a fine fuel/ air mist for efficient operation.

• Aluminium cylinder with Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating, built for durability, light weight and efficient heat transfer.

• 5-speed transmission enables precise gear shift operation.

• SFF-Air is an evolution of the SFF (Separate Function Front Fork) system with no fork spring, reduced weight, increased inner tube diameter, and increased damper rod/ piston size. The SFF-AIR is made of three chambers and the rider can change the spring rate with an air pump instead of changing out the fork spring.

• Slim chassis design makes for a slim riding position, opening up the cockpit to allow the rider to actively take control of the machine.

• Showa piggyback-reservoir rear shock with high/ low-speed compression damping adjustment, plus rebound damping and spring preload adjustments.

• The rear shock, working through Suzuki's superlative rising-rate linkage system, provides 310mm of wheel travel, delivering maximum traction. Race-inspired waved disc rotors and Excel aluminium rims are standard equipment.

• Renthal Aluminium Fatbar is standard equipment. It has more strength and less vibration than Aluminium straight handlebars.

• Gripper seat, with projected cross-shaped patterns on a yellow top surface to provide additional grip.

• For quick fuel adjustment settings to suit riding conditions, two couplers are enclosed. One is for rich and another for lean fuel-setting compared to stock setting2. Customers can change fuel settings to best-suit the riding conditions by just connecting either coupler.

• Maintenance cap for fuel pump and plug for fuel hose are enclosed for ease of maintenance when the customer removes the fuel tank for maintenance purposes.

• The muffler body uses conventional bolts instead of rivets to simplify the replacement of muffler’s glass wool packing.

• FI indicator (optional part: 36380-28H00) has hour meter function, indicates how many hours of engine-running.

RM-Z250 Features:

• The 249cm3, 4-stroke, fuel-injected, DOHC engine, with a compact and lightweight design, powers the RM-Z250's championship-winning performance.

• Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) is a selectable launch mode system derived straight from factory race bike. S-HAC helps rider in launching from starting gate for an early lead. S-HAC has two selectable modes so riders can choose the best option for the conditions and their skill level.

• Through feedback from factory racing, the piston and piston pin were developed using Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis. The piston has shot-peening surface treatment for greater durability. Piston pin is now DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coated, for less friction and greater durability. Piston ring uses a ‘L-shaped’ ring. This increases sealing performance and reduces blow-by gas.

• The advanced battery-less fuel-injection (FI) system features a 44mm throttle body with progressive throttle linkage and a 16-bit computer.

• The fuel injection system uses a unique capacitor-assisted starting system and is powered by a durable, lightweight magneto-generator after starting.

• The aluminium cylinder with Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating is built for durability, light weight and efficient heat transfer.

• The transmission design achieves a smooth yet solid shift feel. The method of fastening the sprocket attains a quick shift feel.

• PSF2 front fork is KYB’s latest Pneumatic Spring Fork, PSF2 is much lighter and has more adjustability than conventional coil-spring fork. Rebound damping is 2-way adjustable in high and low speed. Thanks to no-coil spring design the damper cylinder is enlarged. It results in greater damper response and more stable damper performance.

• KYB rear shock features integral adjuster system. That provides easy access to adjusters, rebound damping and compression. High & Low speed is adjustable with the integral adjuster.

• Excel Aluminium rims are made specifically to withstand rugged racing environments, including Supercross, Motocross and off-road conditions.

• Renthal Aluminium Fatbar is standard equipment. It has more strength and less vibration than Aluminium straight handlebars.

• The gripper seat has projecting cross-shaped patterns on its yellow top surface to provide additional grip.

• Two couplers are included for quickly adjusting the fuel setting to suit the riding conditions. One is for a rich and another is for lean fuel settings. The customer can change the fuel setting to suit the best riding conditions by just connecting either coupler.

• A maintenance cap for the fuel pump and a plug for the fuel hose are included for ease of maintenance when the customer removes the fuel tank for maintenance.

• The muffler body uses conventional bolts in the end cap instead of rivets to simplify the replacement of the glass wool packing in the muffler.

• FI indicator (optional part: 36380-28H00) has an hour meter function, and indicates how many hours the engine has been running.
