The No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTLM will start from the seventh position on the grid in class for today's Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix race at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. Qualifying driver Giancarlo Fisichella posted a best time of 1:15.780 at a speed of 116.8 mph. The team opted to only complete six (6) qualifying laps and preserve their Michelin tires for Sunday's race. IMSA rules state you must start the race on the same tires you qualify and the team did not expect to better their lap time.
The Risi Competizione started from the seventh class grid position at last weekend's Watkins Glen (N.Y.) race and finished in sixth place. The race on the 2.46-mile, 10-turn CTMP circuit is two hours and 40-minutes and starts at 11:05 a.m. EDT with weather expected to be partly cloudy.Rick Mayer, Risi Competizione Race Engineer:"The weekend didn't start out great with the changing weather; we didn't get a lot of laps in yesterday. Toni hadn't been here in a while and Giancarlo needed laps to refresh himself. This afternoon was the only useful running that we got. I think seventh is about where I thought we'd end up. We improved from practice three which is encouraging for the race. It's a short race, but there's a lot of traffic. The crew normally does really well in pit stops so we'll see how tomorrow goes." Giancarlo Fisichella, qualifying driver, No. 62 Ferrari 488 GTLM:"We knew our best position would be seventh and we are seventh. The good thing is our car was much better in the qualifying session. We made some adjustment to the downforce level on the mechanical setup and we went the right direction. The car was more stable and I was more confident. We did close the gap to with other cars and that was good. Corvette is on pole. They got more power, less weight in the Balance of Performance (BoP) adjustment so we knew they would be quick."
Toni Vilander, driver, No. 62 Ferrari 488 GTLM:"It's good to be back at Mosport. The car is handling pretty good, but we just struggle on the straights to keep up. We are in the midpoint of the season now. We try to be positive and give it our best all the time. Giancarlo did the best lap time of our race car all weekend and unfortunately it was only good enough for seventh. If we had more power, I think we'd be right there. We'll just keep pushing. It's a long race tomorrow hopefully we'll get some breaks and get a good result."Live timing and scoring is available for all on-track sessions at IMSA.com and the IMSA Smartphone app.Tune-In Information:The Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is available live in the U.S. on Sunday, July 10 on FOX Sports 1 at 11 a.m. EDT and also available on the FOX Sports GO! mobile app. The race will be streamed live in its entirety for international audiences on IMSA.tv and the IMSA Mobile App.
