Thomas Strudwick Snetterton race report

The Snetterton race weekend started on Friday with a cloudy practise session. The track started off damp but dried slowly during the session to leave one clear line. After a mid-session wheel and setup change, Thomas headed out and finished the session in 9th. Friday afternoon the sun came out and a dry qualifying session allowed Thomas to find a clear track, sitting in 3rdplace with minutes to go before the session ended. On the last lap, and with fierce competition, Thomas was pushed back to 5thwith less than a second covering the top 5 bikes.

Saturday qualifying saw extremely wet conditions with windy gusts and a cold track, in the last few minutes of the session Thomas had a small crash with no damage to the bike or rider. Nobody improved on the Qualifying one times. Thomas set about focussing on the first race of the weekend on Saturday afternoon. The race unfortunately was postponed from the original start time of 3.30pm to 6pm due to track conditions. By the time the race started the weather was cloudy and dry but with similar temperatures to the previous day. Thomas had a good start but got pushed back in the first few laps, and worked his way back through and finished with Thomas in a strong 6th place scoring 10 points for his championship position.

Warm up on Sunday saw a dry track with Thomas feeling comfortable on the bike. By the time the afternoon race started, the sun had come out and track conditions where the best they had been all weekend. Thomas got underway well and pushed hard throughout the race progressing several positions to reach 4th by the mid race point. Despite riding well and switching places with other competitors, Thomas ended back in 6th place by the end of the race.

Overall the race weekend was a good strong result for Thomas and he is improving his championship position with every race result. We look forward to Thruxton on the 22-24 July, the fastest race track in the UK and another local track for the team.

Thomas' thoughts after round Five:“I’m pleased with how the weekend went, and there are some very good positives we can take forward too Thruxton, but also some things that we need to work on. For my first year on the moto3 I’m extremely happy with the progress we have made though and look forward to trying my hardest as always at Thruxton!”
