Matt Brabham has claimed his second consecutive round win in the North American Stadium Super Trucks Series after an incredible stoush in Toronto with defending Champion, Sheldon Creed.
The 22-year-old Indy 500 rookie secured his third Stadium Super Trucks race win on Saturday after a fierce battle with his 18-year-old Traxxas-backed team-mate.
The opening race had all eyes focused on the two Traxxas youngsters, swapping the lead on multiple occasions during the final lap of the race.
Despite the intense pressure applied to the #83 by Creed, Brabham showed true grit to record a memorable win in what could be regarded as one of the great races since Stadium Super Trucks was inaugurated.
On Sunday, the duo had to work their way through from the rear of the grid again and had Series founder, Robby Gordon and Aussie, Paul Morris in for the fight.
Brabham showed astonishing racecraft to bumpdraft his way to the front of the field before the race would come down to its final moments.
Brabham - who made his Verizon IndyCar Series debut for PIRTEK Team Murray during the month of May - and Creed staged a second high speed brawl during the second and final race of the weekend.
Sunday’s race came down to the final jumps on the main straight of the Honda Indy Toronto circuit. Ultimately though, the race fell the way of Creed with Brabham following and securing the round win.
By virtue of his win and runner up results, Brabham maintains the lead in the North American points standings for the Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks competition and has edged closer to Creed in the overall World Championship.
The Toronto Stadium Super Trucks event attracted high class entries in the form of former IndyCar Champion, Paul Tracy, IndyCar and NASCAR star, Max Papis and 2016 Dakar motorcycle winner, Toby Price.
The win adds to Brabham’s win tally on the streets of Toronto, having dominated the Pro Mazda Championship events at the time-honored street circuit in 2013, the back end of his series high seven wins in succession.
MATT BRABHAM“The whole weekend was a huge battle and really awesome. It feels great to get a win here in Toronto and a Traxxas one-two with Sheldon.
“Both races were crazy with lots of battles and a plenty of passing. Sheldon and I had to work hard to push forward in the field and then after the competition caution we were able to battle it out.
“In the second race, the other guys got through the traffic a bit better than I did, but I was able to bumpdraft with Robby and Sheldon and be right in the mix. In the closing stages there it again came down to Sheldon and I and we swapped the lead back and forth almost every corner.
“I got slightly ahead on the final lap and thought I could snatch the win right before the second last jump. However Sheldon and I touched and I had to bail out of the jumps at the last minute.
“It was a fun weekend and I really enjoyed the hard racing and the show that the Traxxas Stadium Super Trucks were able to put on for the fans. I’m very happy to come away with the overall win for the weekend and maintain the Series lead.”
