FIA Formula 3 European ChampionshipPodium in Zandvoort for Volkswagen youngster Lorandi

Alession Lorandi (I) claimed a podium finish at the sixth race weekend of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The Carlin driver was also the best-placed Volkswagen youngster in all three races in Zandvoort (NL). Lorandi finished third in the opening race at the iconic Dutch racetrack. He then came home fifth in race two and fourth in race three. Sweden’s Joel Eriksson of Volkswagen customer racing team Motopark also scored important points towards the championship in the most prestigious junior series in Europe. He finished tenth in race two and seventh in the third and final race. Also in the points in race one for Volkswagen were: Niko Kari (FIN, Motopark) in sixth place and Ryan Tveter (USA, Carlin) in eighth. The race winners in Zandvoort were Mercedes drivers Lance Stroll (CDN), Nick Cassidy (NZ) and Maximilian Günther (D).

TCR BeneluxRadermecker wins in the Golf GTI TCR

Victory for the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR – Vincent Radermecker (B) guided the 330-hp touring car from Wolfsburg to success at the second race weekend of the TCR Benelux series. The Belgian from the Milo Racing team won race two in Zandvoort (NL). Radermecker also finished a fine third in the opening race at the ex-Formula One circuit. Amaury Richard (F) of Volkswagen customer team Delahaye Racing also impressed in the Golf GTI TCR: he was embroiled in a thrilling battle with Norbert Michelisz (H) in race one and eventually finished runner-up behind the Honda driver, who also races in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). Victories in races three and four went to Jeffrey Van Hooydonk and Loris Hezemans (both B, Seat).

Volkswagen Vento Cup IndiaDesouza, Dodhiwala and Todkari win in Chennai

Three races, three different winners – Keith Desouza, Ishaan Dodhiwala and Niranjan Todkari (all IND) won the three races that formed the second race weekend of the Volkswagen Vento Cup India. Desouza won the opening race in Chennai (IND), ahead of Todkari and Karminder Singh (IND). In race two, Dodhiwala clinched victory in the final few metres. Guest starter Li Huwei from China had led the race, but made a mistake on the final lap. Despite temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius, Dodhiwala kept a cool head to take full advantage. Third place went to Sirish Chandran (IND). The third race was less spectacular: Todkari dominated to take a fine win – his first in the Volkswagen Vento Cup India. Desouza and Dodhiwala came home second and third.

Japanese Formula 3 ChampionshipDouble success for Volkswagen drivers Mardenborough and Chiyo in Fuji

Two wins for young Volkswagen drivers –Jann Mardenborough (GB) and Katsumasa Chiyo (J) both claimed one victory apiece in races nine and ten of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in Fuji (J). Mardenborough won race one, with Chiyo the second-best Volkswagen driver in fourth place. The same two youngsters then went on to claim a one-two in race two: Chiyo crossed the finish line first after 21 laps, followed by Mardenborough. The other two Volkswagen drivers, Ye Hongli (CHN) and Tairoku Yamaguchi (J), also scored valuable points, finishing seventh and tenth in race two.
