The UK’s newest and brightest festival of exotic, sports and performance cars is off to a flying start, with almost 1,000 cars booked in and a huge take-up of advance tickets, following an announcement that the show will be headlined by a pair of music icons.
Retro nightclub legends DJ Pied Piper & MC DT plus Toploader will be headlining the evening party at The Fast Car Festival - a brand new event for 2016 that takes place at Donington Park, Derbyshire, next weekend, July 30th – 31st.
The evening entertainment is just one of the reasons to attend The Fast Car Festival, which promises to be an amazing celebration of some of the fastest and most beautiful cars ever made.
New features just announced include the addition of the Fueltopia Barrel Sprint, a form of grassroots motorsport that’s a cross between drag racing, drifting and gymkhana. To find out more or to take part on the day (entries are still open), visit http://www.fueltopia.bigcartel.com/
Another new feature is the huge magazine display, a selection of some of the finest cars ever to be featured in, or to represent, Kelsey Media’s magazine portfolio, which includes Classics Monthly, Classic Ford, Fast Ford, Mini World, Classic Car Mart, Fast Car and Retro Cars. To celebrate the scope of motoring interest catered for by these brands (17 in total) a dedicated display area is being set aside at the heart of Donington Park, with each magazine showcasing the cars that define its ethos.
The Classic Ford stand, which this year is being sponsored by Admiral (www.admiral.com), showcases the very best of the breed. As you might imagine, the Escort forms the backbone of the display, with two Mk1s and five Mk2s sitting alongside such rarities as a 100E ‘Pop’, Mk2 Cortina Estate, Mk1 Capri, Mk2 Granada and a Fiesta XR2 to name just a few.
Fans of modern Fords are just as well catered for as the Fast Ford magazine display will give show goers the chance to see some of the fastest and most modified blue oval motors in the UK. Performance tuning legends Burton Power (www.burtonpower.com) has stepped up to put its name to this paddock and we can see why, these cars are show stoppers! There are no less than four Focus RS models, spanning both the first and second generations, and the latest Mk7 and Mk6 Fiesta STs have been confirmed.
One final new attraction will be the Power to the People Paddock, which celebrates cars like the VW Golf GTI, Peugeot 205GTI, Mini Cooper, Renault 5 GT Turbo and Fiat 500 Abarth, which brought performance motoring to the masses.
These new features will complement the already announced Supercar Paddock, consisting of members’ rides from the online community phenomenon Supercar Driver. It will showcase feature cars that, together, are worth millions of pounds, including metal from the magnificent marques Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Lotus and McLaren, as well as other extreme performance models from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar.
Other key attractions include Caterham Seven Drift Rides, where visitors will be able to experience the thrill of being driven sideways in one of the lightest and fastest accelerating cars of all time, and Rally History in Action, a special display on Donington’s famous Melbourne Loop, where iconic rally cars from the 1970s through to the 1990s will be wowing crowds as they put on a tyre-smoking all-action display.
Former BBC Top Gear and Fifth Gear presenter Tiff Needell will be one of the show’s star guests, and visitors will have the chance to win passenger rides around the famous Donington Park circuit alongside the former F1 ace (see our Facebook page for details).
The show will also be well supported by Pistonheads, the online community for performance car fans. The UK-based portal for petrolheads is not only hosting one of its famous ‘Sunday Services’ on the second day of The Fast Car Festival, but will also be putting together a ‘PH Metal’ display bringing together the very best cars that represent the Pistonheads lifestyle.
Not content with simply putting on a show stopping static display, the boys and girls at Pistonheads will also be taking to the Donington circuit for a 30-car Pistonheads members’ track session, wheel-to-wheel, at high speed around the former GP circuit.
The Fast Car Festival is a live, action-based event and will feature cars from all over the world, with the honoured marque for the inaugural event being Lotus, whose models will enjoy a special display area and exclusive track time. Indeed, Nottingham based dealership Central Lotus is officially supporting The Fast Car Festival with models from its showroom and a stand, giving the public the chance to talk all things Lotus with an official dealer.
Show goers will also be able to take their own vehicle out on the circuit in a number of public track sessions. There’s also the chance for an unforgettable thrill ride, by hopping into the passenger seat of some of the world’s fastest and rarest super cars for a few adrenaline-filled laps of the former F1 circuit.
Yet as well as the cars, the focus is as much on having fun, with a live stage and a full-on festival atmosphere.
Away from the thrills and spills of the track, visitors will be able to soak up the atmosphere of the Festival, with display cars evoking every great motoring nation and trend from across the world. There will be vast club areas within the infield, where you can browse hundreds of the finest, rarest, fastest and priciest cars around.
Meanwhile, over at the main stage there will be live music and interviews with motoring celebrities, along with an ‘experts’ quiz team, taking on the most knowledgeable show goers in an Eggheads-style challenge.
