Victories for Parry and Albon in Pirelli-backed GP3 in HungaryBritish drivers Matt Parry and Alex Albon shared the wins when the GP3 Series visited the Hungaroring.
After qualifying in second, Welsh driver Parry led the opening race of the weekend from start to finish to take his maiden GP3 victory, managing the championship’s Pirelli tyres well. Jake Dennis finished third to join Parry on the podium – his best result in the series to date. Albon came seventh, with Jack Aitken ninth.
Albon started second on the grid for race two, and made a great start to take the lead into the first corner. Like Parry, the Anglo-Thai driver was able to open up a three-second margin over the field. It was his third win from four rounds this season and puts him in the championship lead, three points ahead of his ART Grand Prix team-mate, Monaco’s Charles Leclerc.
Aitken finished the race in fourth but was given a five-second penalty after contact, putting him sixth between Parry and Dennis.
Among the trio of British drivers in this year’s GP2 Series, it was Jordan King who scored the best result in Hungary, finishing race two in second place. Oliver Rowland was sixth and is now fourth in the standings, with King just three points behind him in sixth.
GP2 and GP3 move on to Hockenheim in Germany this weekend for their fourth event in the space of five weekends.

Tom and James Webb took the win in the GTB group in their BMW M3 GTR, climbing from fifth to third by the finish. Warren Gilbert finished fifth overall and second in GTB in his Marcos Mantis.
Paul Bailey and Andy Schulz recorded their latest GTC group victory in their Ferrari 458 Challenge, finishing close behind the Webb car in fourth overall.
GTA was won by Colin Broster and Marcus Clutton, making their first appearance of the year in their yellow Porsche 996. They climbed from 18th on the grid to eighth at the finish. They held off Ginetta driver Daniel O’Brien by just 1.5 seconds.
The first race had to be abandoned after a three-car incident. All the drivers escaped uninjured but a lengthy clean-up operation means the race will be run at another meeting later in the year. The next round takes place at Donington Park on August 13-14.
Johnson wins eventful Pirelli-supported Porsche race at Brands HatchMike Johnson won an eventful Sylatech Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli race at Brands Hatch on Saturday.
Johnson qualified on pole position and led Michael Price at first before Kevin Harrison and Karim Moudi moved up to second and third. The race was then halted on lap seven after an off for Talan Skeels-Piggins, and an attempted restart led to another stoppage after Moudi spun and triggered contact behind.
When the race was eventually restarted, Harrison made the better launch to pass Johnson for the lead, but Johnson was able to make a great pass around the outside of the first corner three laps later. Harrison finished second with Mark McAleer third after passing Paul Winter.
The planned second race did not run after delays to the timetable. The next round is at Donington Park alongside GT Cup on August 13.
Byrne stars at high-speed Thruxton on Pirelli tyres in British SuperbikesShane Byrne dominated much of the MCE British Superbike Championship event at the high-speed Thruxton circuit, although a problem with his machinery denied him a double victory.
The Ducati rider posted the fastest ever lap of the circuit in practice and went faster still in qualifying. He led the first part of the race, and although he was passed by Michael Laverty at the restart after a red flag, he soon reclaimed the lead once more.
Byrne led again in race two before a gear-shift problem forced him to retire, with Laverty therefore able to take the win ahead of Jason O’Halloran. Byrne nevertheless leads the standings on 181 points to Leon Halsam’s 166.
Taylor Mackenzie won the Pirelli Superstock 1000 race while Pirelli riders Charlie Nesbitt and Dan Jones won their classes in the open Moto3 category to extend their championship leads.
