The Thruxton race weekend started with warm and sunny weather and a dry practice day on Friday. This was the first time Thomas had been able to ride at this track so the team knew that he would need to use the practice session to learn the track layout. The first Qualifying session went well but we knew that further changes were needed on the bike particularly as the tyre compound was not able to withstand the abrasive Thruxton track surface.
Saturday qualifying allowed Thomas to improve by two seconds and led him to start 8th on the grid for the Saturday sprint race. The weather continued to be hot and sunny and the conditions were near perfect for the first race of the meeting.
Thomas had a great start and pushed through the pack in the first few laps finishing in a strong 6th place scoring a further 10 points for his championship position. That night Thomas went on a track walk with Superstock 600 rider Jordan Weaving, studying the track and lines, thanks to Mark (Shark Helmets).
Sunday saw another dry track but cooler conditions for warm up and the longer 14 lap race. Thomas was feeling more relaxed on the bike and confident after morning warm up. Thomas had a fantastic start passing several bikes into the first few corners and worked through a group of riders finishing 7th with more championship points.
The race weekend was another strong result for Thomas and we continue to see improvements at every track. The next meeting will be at Brands Hatch on 5 – 7 August but this time on the longer GP track.
Thomas’ thoughts after round Six:“We are now half way through the season and I am feeling more comfortable with the bike at every meeting. I am looking forward to improving my position in the championship in the second half of the season. I like Brands Hatch, it’s a track I have done well at in the past and I’m really looking forward to getting back out on the Case Moto3!”
