It was an improving weekend for Daniel Zmpieri despite problems with the stability of the Huracan n° 101 affecting the evening qualifying sessions leaving Zampieri, Niederhauser and Babini to start in the middle of a dense formation of cars.
During the warm up on Saturday morning the problem was identified. On the starting signal, Babini kept out of trouble, starting a slow but constant comeback with constant and regular laps.
Daniel got into the car for his first turn in the late afternoon, ending a difficult stint of more than two and a half hours with no error for the driver who handed the car over to Babini.
The night passed quietly and hour after hour the position of the #101 improved. In the first hours of the morning, the #101 wasdeemed not to have respected the limits of the track. During the morning the weather at Spa added to the complications - after hours of dry track, a violent cloudburst completely changed the track conditions calling for the car to box to change the tyres. Another unexpected turn of events at the end of the race with another violent cloudburst that completely floods the track. A lot of cars with slick tyres overshoot at the bus stop chicane, but Niederhauser, who closed the race, took the car in for a last change of tyres. Daniel and partners close the race under the chequered flag in the 14th position.
Daniel: ‘It was a very difficult weekend. The day of Thursday was very complicated, but we managed to react and to tidy up the stability. To manage to finish the 24h is always a reason of satisfaction for the drivers and the whole team. It was an inspiring race, tough, because it taxed also the physical of the drivers.’
