With Karl Kainhofer, author Gordon Kirby and members of Penske Racing.
On August 6th 2016, the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum will host a tribute to Penske Racing with Karl Kainhofer, author Gordon Kirby and many other members from the team’s history. Kainhofer and Kirby will discuss his adventures, and his team members will chime in and revive one of the most exciting eras in across-the-board automobile racing in America. After the event there will be a book signing and attendees may purchase commemorative posters for autographing. This is a special event for racing enthusiasts and auto history fans, not to be missed!
In addition to Karl Kainhofer and Gordon Kirby, the following members of Penske Racing will be in attendance: George Wintersteen, Don Cox, Woody Woodard, Leroy Gane, Chuck Cantwell, John Houp, Mark DeLong, Jay Signore. Chuck Sprague, Grant Newbury, Geoff Miller and Lew Davis.
We are excited to announce that we will have a 1968 Sunoco Team Penske Camaro race car in attendance. Many “Thank Yous” to owner Irwin Kroiz for sending the car to join this great event. The car was driven in period by Sam Posey and Mark Donohue and it features hundreds of trick parts and features that Penske Racing became famous for.
National Poll Votes Simeone Museum Most Popular Auto Museum in America
USA Today conducts popularity campaigns among best places to see and things to do throughout the country in their national 10Best series. After a month of online voting under the category of Best Transportation Museums, the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum was the most popular car Museum, and the second most popular among all types of transportation museums.
Recently honored three times by the International Historic Motoring Awards in London, the Academy Awards of the automobile history community, The Simeone Foundation Museum enjoys popularity because of a selection of special sports racing automobiles set in dioramas reliving the race tracks. Regularly, these cars are taken out on a small track at the South West Philadelphia Museum and demonstrated for the public in a historical context. Regular educational lectures and young driver safety programs are part of the mission of the charitable foundation.
The museum’s underlying inspirational theme, the spirit of competition, is demonstrated by the serial, chronological display of the world’s most important race cars and how they evolved stimulated by the desire to win.
Once described as "having more Mona Lisa type cars than any other automobile Museum", more information about the five-acre Museum facility located near the Philadelphia International Airport can be found at www.simeonemuseum.org.
