After his brilliant victory in Vila Real in front of his home fans in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, Tiago Monteiro has not had a lot of time to enjoy the official summer break. Involved in a very intense period of testing, development and simulations as well as taking part in the TCR Benelux championship, the Portuguese driver is now ready to get back to work in the FIA WTCC for the next round of the 2016 season. Tiago discovered that Argentine soil, home to this weekend's races, was very successful for him last year with two podium finishes brilliantly acquired at the Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo.
This time around, Tiago has every confidence in the qualities of his Honda Civic # 18 and thinks that he can be competitive in Argentina. "We know that the Argentine stage will be difficult and hotly contested. We are in the land of 'Pechito' and he knows the track very well. But our ambition remains the same: we will try to get everything on our side to try and win races and gain as many points as possible from each race to consolidate our second position in the championship," said Tiago.
The Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo holds some good memories for Tiago, who believes that the outlook is encouraging. "It's a demanding circuit but it has several overtaking areas that are very positive for the show and will help to gain places in the race," Tiago continued. "However, the qualifying result will be very important. Lada and Volvo may also prove to be tough opponents because they won't be carrying any ballast."
The Argentine races will be broadcasted on Eurosport on Sunday at 18h and 19h.
