The 2016 BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy will take place over the weekend of October 29/30 at the high-speed Snetterton 300 circuit in Norfolk. The one-weekend championship will enable drivers to gain valuable track time in the renowned Tatuus-Cosworth BRDC British F3 cars ahead of the 2017 season, whilst engaging in four highly-competitive races across Saturday and Sunday.
Autumn Trophy events have afforded the opportunity for drivers such as MSA Formula Champion and now four-time BRDC British F3 race winner Lando Norris, to get to grips with the machinery ahead of up-coming season campaigns. Others, including former MSA Young Driver of the Year Sennan Fielding and Japanese F3 graduate Struan Moore have also taken the opportunity to compete amongst extremely high-quality fields.
Fortec Motorsports’ Ben Barnicoat, a McLaren Autosport BRDC Award (MABA) finalist in 2015, took the title after a dramatic battle with Douglas Motorsport’s Harrison Scott, also a former MABA nominee, which went down to the very last encounter of the Autumn Trophy at Brands Hatch. The Snetterton circuit is a perfect place for aspiring BRDC British F3 drivers to get to grips with the Tatuus-Cosworth, with the championship an ideal stepping stone from FIA F4 championships to FIA European F3 or the GP3 Series. With a mixture of high-speed turns, heavy braking zones and a tight infield section, Snetterton enables young racers to sample and learn every aspect of the 230bhp-spec car with its sophisticated aerodynamics.
Each day will feature a qualifying session followed by two races, with the Autumn Trophy Champion crowned following the fourth and final encounter in Norfolk on the Sunday. Prior to the weekend, participating teams and drivers will be able to take part in an official British F3 test on the Thursday, with two hours of exclusive running also available on the Friday, ensuring that every driver benefits from a huge amount of track time.
