SOMERSET staged a remarkable comeback at Scunthorpe to secure their 13th successive Premier League win of the season. The Rebels were eight points down with four heats to go but finished in style to grab a 47-43 victory. Two late 5-1s from Josh Grajczonek and Rohan Tungate, who both scored 13+1, were pivotal in the outcome leaving the Scorpions frustrated to miss out.Somerset boss Garry May said: “Even though we were those eight points down going into the last four heats, I just knew that if we got something from heats 12 and 14, then Josh and Rohan would do the business for us in heats 13 and 15, and so it proved.“These Somerset boys are made of stern stuff, and they were determined to keep that unbeaten run going, and fought back superbly, and I suppose that if you are only going to lead a match once, then the best time to do it is at the end of heat 15!”Scorpions boss Dave Peet said: “Unfortunately, it was a bridge too far for us in the final four races. Of course, it’s disappointing to lose when you’re eight points up with four races to go, but the lads gave it everything.“There are no excuses from us, because Somerset are such a good team, with two big hitters and plenty of support elsewhere. They’ve won all their league meetings, and it’s no disgrace to lose to them by only four points.”Glasgow remain second in the Premier League table after an emphatic 59-31 win over Workington at Ashfield.Richard Lawson headed up a powerful Tigers display with 13 points whilst reserve Nike Lunna continued his fine return from injury with 10+2 and Richie Worrall scored 10.Lawson said: “Everyone expected it to be a lot more difficult than it was. We dominated from start to finish."I was a bit gutted about losing the maximum but 13 points is not a bad return, so I can't complain too much. Everyone is riding well right through the team. We just need to keep it going."It is a great time to come good. We didn't have a home meeting for three weeks at one point and that affected us a bit - and then we bounced back with that win at Berwick - and it's been good since then.”Edinburgh have shot into third position with a rampant 52-39 win at Peterborough which enabled them to collect all four league points. The Monarchs seized the initiative with two successive early 5-1s and limited the home side to a 5-3 when Ulrich Ostergaard went for double points, securing their win with a 5-1 from Kevin Wolbert and Sam Masters over a previously unbeaten Craig Cook in Heat 13.Wolbert scored 12+1 with Masters on 11+1 and impressive youngster Dan Bewley added 10+2 for the visitors, with Ostergaard scoring 13 and Cook 10 for the hosts.Edinburgh boss John Campbell said: “I hadn’t expected that, I’d hoped that if Sam scored 15 we might get a point and thought we might have had enough riders going to get a point out of it. “But it was a total reversal of last Sunday when we had no riders on fire, and no spark to drive them on – everyone was sparking all over the place today! The result was never in doubt. “Kevin had perhaps his best away match of the season, Sam was complaining that he was dropping points but then involved in an absolutely phenomenal heat 15! He was at the back, then all of a sudden he was in second place with Craig at the back – fantastic, fantastic!”Peterborough promoter Ged Rathbone said: “Everyone knows how much I detest losing, especially at home. It is something we have experienced far too many times this season and we really have got to sort out the inconsistency with the track.“Everyone could see it went slick very quickly and that looked to catch a lot of our guys out, but they have to be prepared better."It is clear to see the team is not strong enough at the moment and I can assure the fans we are doing all we can to rectify that.”Meanwhile Newcastle kept their play-off hopes alive with a 57-36 win over Rye House at Brough Park.Robert Lambert (12+1), Steve Worrall (11+2), Ludvig Lindgren (10+1) and Lewis Rose (10) were all in double figures as the Diamonds moved to within three points of sixth-placed Berwick. The Rockets’ scoring was dominated by Stuart Robson with 13+1 and a highly impressive Robert Branford at reserve with 11, including three race wins.Newcastle boss George English said: “A good solid team effort delivered the good for us tonight with three more well-earned league points going into the pot. “Rye certainly gave us a decent run for our money, but our strength in depth rang out well for the victory.”Rockets boss Peter Schroeck said: “It was a tough one today. We came here and we knew we would have to take it a little bit on the chin. That’s just how it goes sometimes, but at least we were able to batten down the hatches after what was a very difficult start.“What an evening it was for Rob, though. That boy just gives you everything. That is the positive that we take out of this. We have got people who give you everything; you think of Robbo and what he puts into it, and then you’ve got people like Branny. They just bounce off each other.”

MILDENHALL pulled off a sensational late comeback to edge out Kent 45-44 in a dramatic Travel Plus National League match at West Row.The Fen Tigers trailed by 13 points with five heats to go in a meeting which had been heavily delayed by the late arrival of the accident and also featured several incidents.Recent Mildenhall signing Kyle Hughes was withdrawn with a shoulder injury, whilst the Kings lost Luke Clifton with a possible broken bone in his hand before No.1 Luke Bowen also had to pull out with hand damage.Dan Halsey and Jon Armstrong secured 5-1s in Heats 13 and 15 to complete the comeback, with 15-year-old Jordan Jenkins making a hugely promising debut with nine points.Fen Tigers chief Kevin Jolly said: “I would like to apologise to everyone who visited Mildenhall today for the delay which was unfortunately out of our hands. The ambulance broke down en route to the track and we had no option but to wait for a replacement, rider safety has to be paramount at all times.“The track was difficult to start with on what was a windy and hot day, but obviously an hour and a half delay didn’t help things and the track staff did their very best in the circumstances I felt. Once it settled it was fine and gave a meeting with everything. “I am so proud of our lads today who fought back so well in the second half of the meeting, although this is somewhat tempered by Kyle Hughes’s injury. Kyle has had no luck at all this season and hopefully his injury is not as bad as initially thought.”Meanwhile Liam Carr struck a 15-point maximum as Coventry ended their losing sequence with a 46-42 win at bottom club Buxton.Carr was supported by 11 points from Mitchell Davey as the Storm pegged back a five-point deficit late on despite losing Dan Greenwood to a broken collarbone, whilst the home side also suffered knocks and Ryan Burton aggravated a hand injury.Manager Laurence Rogers said: “It was a very good result, but once again we’ve got a mix of good news and bad news with Dan breaking his collarbone.“It was still nice to get a win away from home, and the boys showed a lot of spirit to come out on top.“Liam Carr was tremendous, scoring a 15-point maximum, and Jamie Halder also did a great job on his first meeting back from injury.”Buxton boss Jason Pipe said: “I’m pretty much speechless after that. Injuries and thrown away points, but I thought we had done it. “All credit to Laurence and his team - they needed an away win as much as we needed a home one, well done to them.”

WOLVERHAMPTON will face their toughest home test of the season as they host Belle Vue in a mouth-watering top of the table clash at Monmore Green on Monday.Wolves are the only club who still boast a perfect record on their own patch – but they will need to be at their best to overcome a powerful Aces side who recently overhauled them at the Elite League summit.Joonas Kylamkorpi returns to the home side following injury and illness, whilst the Aces have Matej Zagar back in their line-up but operate rider-replacement for Max Fricke, who is still out with a shoulder injury.Wolves skipper Fredrik Lindgren said: “Belle Vue are also fighting for the play-offs and they have a very strong team, so it’s going to be a tough meeting.“They ran us very close last time they came to Monmore and I think we’ll have to put in a good performance to win again.“We’re still unbeaten at home, so hopefully we can keep that going with another win on Monday.”Belle Vue boss Mark Lemon said: “I personally am looking forward to this meeting. We ran Wolves so close the last time we went there and equally they ran us close so I imagine a meeting that’ll be to-ing and fro-ing all night.“Will it be a preview of the grand final? I don’t know. Even now, the top four is undecided. Wolves have a good team on paper and throughout the year they’ve translated that into points on the track.”Meanwhile Swindon are in urgent need of away points as they visit Coventry in Monday’s televised fixture. The Bees return to full strength after losing out at Leicester on Saturday, a meeting in which Jason Garrity continued his spectacular return from injury. Tom Perry guests for the injured Stefan Nielsen for the Robins.Coventry are offering £10 admission for all supporters who can produce their re-admission ticket from Friday’s home match against the Lions.Garrity said: “We want to get another win at home on Monday, and even though we aren’t going to make the play-offs we want to end the season strongly.“We know what we’re capable of when we’re all on form and the pressure is off a little bit now, so we’ll just enjoy it and hopefully that will pay off on the track.”Swindon boss Alun Rossiter said: “We've got a fair amount of away meetings still to come and we need to pick some points up on the road.“We could do with following up a good win at home to King's Lynn by getting something at Coventry.“We won there earlier on in the season and our boys seem to go well at Brandon so hopefully they can put in another good performance and get some more points too.”

KING’S Lynn star Nathan Greaves says the Young Stars are capable of pulling off a positive result at Kent on Monday. The visitors are still in play-off contention after a hefty home win over the Isle of Wight on Friday, and now head to Central Park to take on the injury-hit Kings. The home side have Luke Bowen and Luke Clifton joining Danny Ayres on the sidelines after their defeat at Mildenhall on Sunday.Greaves said: “Kent's scores at home speak for themselves and we know it's not going to be easy.“But we know if we work hard and all click on the same day then we're capable of getting a result.“Things have been going so well at home but we know we need to start getting points in our away meetings to boost our chances of getting in the play-offs.”
