KEITH Chapman insists Great Britain can be crowned World Champions in the not too distant future - and has vowed to do everything he can to make it possible during his reign as Chairman of the British Speedway Promoters' Association.
Chapman has described last month’s Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup silver medal as an achievement to be proud of and believes it has provided the sport with a huge boost in the UK.He insists his eyes are already set on the 2017 campaign and Chapman says it could prove to be a massive year for British Speedway on many fronts.
"What Great Britain achieved at Belle Vue the other week was fantastic and full credit to everyone involved," said Chapman."Rosco (Alun Rossiter - GB team manager) made some bold decisions this year but they paid off and I made sure I went out of my way to congratulate him."After a tough start, the riders showed great professionalism and character to turn their fortunes around and fight back superbly to finish second."It was a proud night for everyone involved in British Speedway and it's certainly a platform to build on."I hear what Tai Woffinden is saying; we can play a role in helping Great Britain get to the top again and I'll do everything within my power to put us in the best possible position of doing so."We've arranged for a management committee meeting which is coming up soon and 2017 is definitely going to be on the agenda."The BSPA funded the training camp for Team GB at the start of this year and that's an initiative that seems to have been beneficial so similar things will be looked at again."When you think how young Tai and Robert Lambert are, who have both been outstanding for the Great Britain team in the last two years, it makes you think that exciting times are ahead and I genuinely believe that they are."I see a lot of National League racing with the King's Lynn Young Stars and the standard of the young, up and coming riders really is encouraging."The work done by Phil Morris and now Vatch (Neil Vatcher) on the youth scene should be applauded and I think the future for speedway in Britain is bright."As Chairman of the BSPA, there's lots I want to do with the rules and making the sport more accessible and appealing as well and 2017 is going to be a big year."There's already lots of work going on behind the scenes which covers all aspects of British Speedway and hopefully the sport will reap the benefits sooner rather than later."
