Motors TV Weekend Highlights August 13,14

The summer months are the height of the motorsport silly season, where reporters are occupied just as much by off-track Chinese whispers as what happens out on the black stuff. Fortunately for you, here at the High Speed Television Channel we’re all about the latter and have prepared another weekend of four-wheeled fun from across the world.

We start with Round 9 of the IMSA Sportscar Championship from the majestic Road America circuit in Wisconsin, where all four classes will be in action. After sitting out the Lime Rock demolition derby, the Prototypes will be unleashed again, with Eric Curran and Dane Cameron seeking to carry on where they left off at Mosport and close the points gap to Action Express team-mates Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa. Meanwhile in GTLM, repeated clashes masked the true potential of Porsche and BMW at Lime Rock, so expect Corvette to face a much stiffer challenge this time around.

Next we head to Norfolk for a British GT double-header at Snetterton, where five teams are still in with a chance of the title. After their breakthrough win last time out at Spa-Francorchamps, could Mark Farmer and Jon Barnes gate-crash the championship battle, or would a victory at the Spa 24 Hours spur Alexander Sims and team-mate Liam Griffin to the top step of the podium? As ever, the GT3s will share the circuit with the GT4s, where the return of defending champion Ross Gunn could delay what Optimum Motorsport hoped would be a stroll to the title in the countryside. This one is far from over…

Remaining at Snetterton, the BRDC British F3 Championship welcomes Force India reserve driver Nikita Mazepin, who achieved notoriety in the FIA F3 European championship for his ‘fracas’ with Callum Ilott at the Hungaroring. Could the Russian take points away from title protagonists Ricky Collard and Matheus Leist on his first appearance in the championship? Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 regular Harrison Scott also returns for the first time since an abortive weekend at Silverstone, and will hoping for rather better weather this time around!

From rural Norfolk, we head across the globe to the urban metropolis that is Queensland, Australia, where the rough and ready stars of the V8 Ute Racing Series hit the streets of Townsville. We’re likely to see a new champion crowned this year, with David Sieders, Ryan Hansford, Craig Dontas and Nathan Pretty all in contention at the season’s halfway stage, so any mistakes on this most unforgiving of street circuits could prove very costly…

Of course, no world tour of motorsport would be complete without a visit to the Nürburgring, so fortunately we’ll be bringing you all the action from the latest round of the ADAC GT Masters. One of the best-kept secrets in motorsport, with a stunning array of GT3 machinery from manufacturers including Porsche, BMW, Lamborghini, Audi, Mercedes, Bentley and Corvette, the GT Masters is at an all-time high and regularly boasts thirty-car grids, so why not see what all the fuss is about?

If all that’s not enough, then there’s even more action from Snetterton in the VW Racing Cup UK, plus the ever-growing Britcar Endurance Championship from Croft and the British Historic Rally Championship’s visit to Wales for the Harry Flatters Rally.
