Hudson and Wilcox score victory in GT Cup with PirelliNigel Hudson and Adam Wilcox scored an upset in the GT Cup at Donington Park with victory in the pit-stop race.
Jordan Witt continued his superiority in the Pirelli-equipped series with commanding wins in Saturday’s two sprint races in his Bentley Continental GT3. In both races, the Lotus Evora of Gareth Downing and the Audi R8 driven by Hudson finished second and third respectively, enjoying a good battle early in the second encounter.
Witt led again in the pit-stop race, but his early advantage was eliminated by a red flag for a crash for the Lamborghini Gallardo of Neil Huggins, causing the race duration to be shortened to 30 minutes. Witt was therefore unable to build a significant lead before his pit-stop, where a success penalty dropped him to the back of the pack.
This left the Lotus and the Audi to battle for the win, with Hudson and Wilcox coming out on top. Having missed the first two races due to an engine failure on their Ferrari 458, sat last after the restart and taken a success penalty, John Dhillon and Aaron Scott came through to complete the podium. Witt worked his way through to fifth, behind first-time GTB group winner Andrew Baker.
In the first two races, Tom Webb had won GTB in his BMW M3 ahead of Porsche driver Baker and come fourth overall. The GTC wins were shared between Jeff Wyatt in the Huggins Lamborghini, Paul Bailey in his Ferrari and Stewart Proctor and Steven Gray in a McLaren 650S Sprint. Sam Webster scored a hat-trick of GTA wins in his Ginetta G55, sharing with Jamie Stanley in the pit-stop race.
Weston wins on rally return on Pirelli tyresDave Weston Jr claimed victory in his first rally for over 12 months on last weekend’s Grampian Stages.
Weston took the 2015 BTRDA Rally Series title driving a Pirelli-backed Subaru Impreza WRC and used a similar car on the brand new Scottish Rally Championship event near his hometown of Aberdeen. He and co-driver Aled Davies led throughout, finishing six seconds clear after six stages.
Garry Pearson extended his SRC standings lead in his Ford Fiesta R5. He was tied with Weston for the rally lead after the second stage, but ended up fourth after losing out in a battle with fellow Pirelli driver Euan Thorburn (Peugeot 208 T16) for the final podium spot. However, with Weston and Thorburn not registered for the SRC, Pearson still collected a strong points haul.
Reigning champion Jock Armstrong finished in fifth in his Impreza to keep his title hopes alive. Pirelli supplied nine of the top 10 finishers, which were completed by Mitsubishi drivers Mark McCulloch, Bruce McCombie, Greg McKnight, Barry Groundwater and Mike Faulkner.
The final round of the SRC will be the Galloway Hills Rally on September 10.
Cook claims double in Pirelli-backed Ferraris at Festival ItaliaThe Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic series headlined a successful inaugural Festival Italia event at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
Both races were won by racing novice Richard Cook in his Ferrari 355 Challenge. He had a four-second winning margin in race one as Tim Mogridge and Vance Kearney completed the podium in similar models.
In race two, a safety car meant Cook had to defend his lead late on, beating Mogridge to the chequered flag by 1.4 seconds. Tristian Simpson, who led the first race before retiring, finished in third. James Cartwright twice finished fourth in his 328 GTB.
Morris picks up a pair of Pirelli Porsche wins at DoningtonPete Morris won both Sylatech Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli races at Donington Park on Saturday.
Starting from pole, the 2015 champion led race one throughout but his winning margin over Mark McAleer was only 0.196 seconds, as McAleer fought back from dropping to fifth place early on. Kevin Harrison occupied second for much of the race but slipped back to fourth in the closing stages, as a charging Mike Johnson took third.
Race two was much of the same, with Morris heading the field from lights to flag but finishing less than half a second clear of McAleer, who relegated Harrison to third mid-race.
Andy Toon won class two in the opening race, before being passed by McAleer’s son Jake for the race two honours.
