SOMERSET sent out a major Premier League title warning with a dramatic 46-44 win at rivals Glasgow on Sunday. The Rebels raced into an eight-point lead before a major mid-meeting swing put the home side six-up – but over the last five races the visitors regained control.Dan Bewley proved to be a stunning guest for the injured Zach Wajtknecht, scoring 13, with Rohan Tungate adding 11 and Josh Grajczonek 9+2, whilst Richie Worrall scored 10 for the Tigers.Somerset boss Garry May said: “Even when Glasgow came back at us mid-meeting, I knew that the boys still had it in them to turn things around and take the win. “We had a team meeting during the interval to formulate a game plan for the final third of the match, which worked to perfection.“Everyone rode their socks off, and I would like to thank our guest replacements Thomas Jorgensen and Dan Bewley for their superb efforts.”Glasgow boss Stewart Dickson said: “Unfortunately they were jumping out the starts a lot quicker than us in the first part of the meeting. We got it back but I don't think the track grade and the disruption after heat 10 helped us - we lost our momentum there.“You look at the scorechart and it's obvious to anybody that Dan Bewley's 13 points won them the match. In saying that, we didn't ride as well as we normally can either and we threw a couple of points away here and there.“It's a big blow - I'm not going to kid on that it's not. It's a big dent to our hopes of getting into the top two.”Newcastle climbed into the play-off places with a convincing 59-34 win over Peterborough at Brough Park – the result leaving the Diamonds just three points behind the Panthers with four matches in hand. The home side had four riders in double figures with Steve Worrall scoring 12+1, joined by Ludvig Lindgren (11+3), Lewis Rose (11+3) and Matej Kus (10+1) although they do have a concern over Lindgren after a last-race incident.Craig Cook was left on his own at the top of the Peterborough scorechart with 14 points on a day when they fell short of expectations.Newcastle boss George English said: “This was an excellent and solid display of our quality as Peterborough's away record is excellent so our win, and our sixth place in the league, is well deserved and all down to the team's perfect unity at the moment. “If one lad has an off night the rest can pick up their game and we can still win as we proved tonight.“Unfortunately Ludvig ricked his back in Heat 15 and we now have to wait to see if he will be fit for our match on Friday at Peterborough.”Panthers manager Carl Johnson said: “Only Craig and Ashley (Morris) come out of the meeting with any credit."It was an embarrassing performance and I feel sorry for the supporters who travelled up to witness it.“There was nowhere near enough effort or heart from the majority of the riders. We got exactly what we deserved from the meeting… absolutely nothing.”Scunthorpe recorded a thumping 54-30 win over Workington at the Eddie Wright Raceway, with the meeting curtailed prior to the re-run of Heat 15 due to rain. The Scorpions had to use rider replacement for in-form Lewis Kerr, who missed the meeting through illness, and they were then reduced to five riders, after young reserve Josh Bailey crashed out of the meeting with a shoulder injury in Heat 4.But the home side dominated with Carl Wilkinson piling up 15+1 at reserve whilst Josh Auty scored a four-ride paid maximum and Ryan Douglas picked up 12. Rasmus Jensen top-scored for the Comets on nine.Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I know the final scoreline makes it look like that Workington didn’t turn up, but that wasn’t the case at all. They fully played their part in a very good speedway meeting; it was just that our lads really rode well.“There was some terrific racing out there. I seem to say every meeting that there was a race that was Race Of The Year. This week, it was Heat 13, where Ryan Douglas and Josh Auty came through from behind to take a 5-1. Josh was back to his brilliant best.”

MILDENHALL produced a rampant display to dismantle Cradley with a 60-29 win over the Heathens at West Row.Fen Tigers promoter Kevin Jolly heaped praise on his side as they romped to victory with a stunning all-round performance.Dan Halsey led the way with 14 points from six rides, with Jon Armstrong adding 12+5 and youngster Jordan Jenkins 12+1, as the visitors’ play-off hopes took a hit with only Max Clegg (11) making a significant impact.Jolly said: “This was a little bit special, all six lads gave their all, riding with passion and no little skill for what was probably just about a perfect afternoon for our fans. “It would, I guess, be unfair to single anyone out, but I must make mention of Jon, his influence in the pits with the youngsters is massive and on the track he took me back to a different era with some wonderful team riding. If our lads don’t listen and learn from Jon they are missing out on a marvellous opportunity.“I am sure our supporters have headed home with big smiles on their faces and today was for them, they have stuck with the lads this season and backed me personally and I would like to thank them for that.”Cradley boss Will Pottinger said: “We’ve come to expect not getting hammered like that away from home, so personally I was very disappointed with that result. “That performance just wasn’t good enough, we should be doing much better and we’ll certainly be looking for a big improvement over the rest of the season.“We still have a number of matches, but if we’re going to make the play-offs we certainly need to up our game.”(SPEEDWAY 3)

WORLD Champion Tai Woffinden makes an exciting return to Wolverhampton colours when they host Lakeside in a crucial Elite League fixture at Monmore Green on Monday. The 26-year-old is back with his parent club for the first time since 2014 after agreeing a deal to replace Joonas Kylmakorpi for the rest of the season.Wolves have dropped out of the top four although they have several home matches in hand on their rivals, with the Hammers desperate to boost their play-off chances with away points.Said Woffinden: "I'm really excited to be back at Wolves and I can't wait to see everyone there again."I'm hoping there'll be lots of fans there to cheer the boys on and we all know how important the next week is for us."We've got the chance to make a big push towards the play-offs and a winning return to the side for me is the aim.”Lakeside coach Kelvin Tatum said: “Our away form hasn’t been as good as we would have liked, but everyone in the team is aware of how important these last few meetings are and I’d like to think they’ll raise their game accordingly.“Wolves will be boosted by Tai Woffinden coming back, but we have to go there and believe we can challenge.“We have several riders in excellent form at the moment, so I’d certainly like to think we can go there and push Wolves all the way.”Meanwhile Swindon face one of their most important fixtures of the season when they host reigning champions Poole at the Abbey Stadium. The Robins’ play-off prospects improved dramatically with their win at King’s Lynn last week, whilst the Pirates still have their eye on top spot as they look to reel in Belle Vue.Swindon boss Alun Rossiter said: “We can't afford another home defeat and with meetings to come at Wolves and Lakeside as well it's certainly in our own hands."There's no doubt that Poole have got a fantastic team and it's no surprise to see them charging up the league table in recent weeks."We have to make some good starts and we have to be right on our game from the first race if we are to get a win and send them home with nothing.”Poole promoter Matt Ford said: “This has all the makings of a dramatic match. Both sides know only too well the importance of this meeting and with every point absolutely vital at this stage of the season there will be no second-chances. “They have riders that have been scoring freely lately and we will need to make sure there are good contributions throughout our team. “I still don't think that we have seen all seven Pirates all click on the same night yet this season and this certainly marks the start of some very tough away matches we have to confront.”Meanwhile Kent will crown a new winner of the Laurels at Central Park as three-time champion Simon Lambert is ruled out by injury.Five of the regular Kings riders, with only Luke Bowen and David Mason missing out, will be in action with former club favourite Steve Boxall heading up the remaining invited competitors along with the likes of Dan Halsey, Georgie Wood and Tom Bacon.
