Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan will seek to maintain his lead in the Independents Championship when the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads for Rockingham this weekend for the eighth round of the year.Andrew extended his lead in the standings to 25 points last time out at Knockhill with three solid points finishes, although on-track contact following robust driving from some of his rivals prevented him from fighting at the front of the field. The 27-year-old makes the trip to Rockingham, the only circuit on the BTCC calendar to run in an anti-clockwise direction, looking to make the most of the undoubted pace of his Motorbase Performance-run Ford Focus, which secured pole position and took a race win at the circuit twelve months ago. With Andrew himself also having enjoyed success at Rockingham in the past, with a double win during his title winning campaign in 2013, hopes are high that an upturn in fortune will allow him to challenge for the kind of results that his pace deserves.“We’ve shown in recent meetings that we have a quick car, but for various reasons we haven’t been able to really show that speed in the end results,” he said. “Hopefully Rockingham will be the weekend where I’ll have that little bit of luck that seems to have deserted me over the past few weekends, and I’ll be able to challenge towards the front of the field.“Like Knockhill, Rockingham is a circuit where the Focus has been strong in the past and I have a few wins there myself, so there is no reason why I can’t push for a second win of the year to strengthen my lead in the Independents’ Championship, which is the major focus for me in the three rounds left to run.“The big question this weekend will be how the tyres perform as we haven’t used the ‘Hard’ tyre at Rockingham before. It could make things interesting on race day as the circuit is known for being hard on the soft tyres we have used in the past and it adds something new to the mix when we are working on the best set-up for race day.”After qualifying on Saturday 27 August at 15.30, the first of three BTCC races will be at 11.37 on Sunday, with race two at 13.52 and race three at 16.40. All three races will be broadcast on ITV4, whilst qualifying will be broadcast live on www.itv.com. Live timing and results from the weekend will be available at www.tsl-timing.com
