Ginetta Junior victory headlines strong Rockingham weekend for Harry King

After a challenging weekend at Knockhill, rising star Harry King returned to form in fine style with a stunning performance at Rockingham that saw him secure a second victory of the Simpson Race Products Ginetta Junior Championship season. The 15-year-old from Holyport had shown flashes of speed on the trip to Scotland but had been unable to replicate the impressive results that he had enjoyed at Snetterton back in July; where he opened his win account in the series. The Rockingham weekend was very much a case of business as usual for the rookie however, starting with an impressive performance in qualifying where he secured a place on the second row of the grid at the wheel of his Elite Motorsport-run car.The opening race of the weekend saw Harry shuffled back down to sixth place, ending up as second best of the rookie drivers despite lapping within fourth tenths of a second of the race winner.Race two would be delayed until Sunday morning as a result of freak weather at the Northamptonshire circuit on Saturday evening, with a good start allowing Harry to make up a place on the opening lap to run fifth. Having then moved up to fourth, Harry battled hard for a place on the overall podium but on the final lap, lost a position to Lewis Brown.Despite that, he still took top rookie honours ahead of his Elite Motorsport team-mate Tom Wood. The reverse grid draw for race three put Harry alongside Tom on the front row, with Harry making the perfect start to take the lead as the pair headed around the Rockingham banking for the first time.As the field battled behind, Harry was able to control proceedings from the front with a mature drive that was rewarded with a second victory of the season but a first win ‘proper’; his Snetterton success having come after the winner ‘on the road’ was excluded. The points from the Rockingham weekend have allowed Harry to move up to eighth place in the championship standings whilst he sits third amongst the rookies; just 15 points away from second place.

“It’s been great weekend and I’m delighted to get a victory under my belt,” he said. “Although the record books say I won at Snetterton, it wasn't what I’d call a proper win as I didn’t do it on the road, so this feels much more special to me.“The team has done a fantastic job this weekend and I have to thank everyone at Elite for giving me such a good car. From the moment we went on track, it’s been really on the pace and we’ve been rewarded with some good results. In the final race, I got out front and I don’t think I looked in the mirrors until about lap seven as I just wanted to stay focused. To win is great, but a 1-2 for the team to finish the weekend is brilliant.“The results this weekend have been a good boost for me after a tough time at Knockhill where things didn’t go our way. I’ve shown everyone what I can do and I’m looking forward to building on this when we go to Silverstone for the next round.”
