Lime Rock’s Labor Day weekend (Sept. 1 - 5) Historic Festival 34Onboard footage from the first-ever event at Lime Rock Park...
With Lime Rock’s Labor Day weekend (Sept. 1 - 5) Historic Festival 34 presented by the Prestige Family of Fine Cars starting this Thursday (the Race & Sports Car Parade), we thought you would really enjoy watching vintage cars at Lime Rock – before they were actually vintage cars!
Yep, this footage would have been shot Saturday, April 20, 1957, and is from the “SCCA Driver’s School” at "Limerock Raceway (sic)." This was one week before the track’s scheduled opening race weekend.
April, 1957 Lime Rock video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpxb7RBNQE8&feature=youtu.be
Lime Rock expected maybe two or three dozen drivers with their sports cars to show up. Instead, 152 cars swamped the facility, and the five instructors had their hands full!
This is awesome to watch – surely we’re seeing one of the first instances of on-board camera work – and the music is wonderfully, typically happy Hollywood strings and horns.
The first 15 minutes of this video are from Lime Rock, the second half is Vineland, N.J.
Whoever shot and edited this film had a sense of humor, too, macabre as it is. Pay attention when you get to 13:40!
(By the way, we have no doubt at least a few of the cars – the actual cars, not just the same makes and models – you see in this video will be here at Lime Rock this weekend, either racing or in the Sunday in the Park Concours d'Elegance.)
