'Rain Man' Buick Coming to Lime Rock Historic Festival 34

Wayne Carini bringing the Buick that “starred” in the movie Rain Main

Autograph Schedule posted

Historic Festival 34 Honored Collector Wayne Carini called us late yesterday to tell us he’s bringing the 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible to display all four days of the Festival. The car is owned by Rain Man director Barry Levinson – it was Wayne who did a restoration not long ago – and, well, “My people called his people and it’s going to be here!”

In the movie, the iconic convertible is key to Charlie (Tom Cruise) and his autistic savant brother Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) finally getting to know each other in a drive across America.

The Buick will be here during Historic Festival 34 at the “Autism Families Connecticut” Midway Booth Friday, Saturday and Monday, and down on Sam Posey Straight for the Sunday in the Park Concours.

Wayne’s youngest daughter especially enjoys “going fast.” She was diagnosed with autism at an early age. Wayne is an avid supporter of autism awareness and research organizations, and helps organize and sponsor car events for the benefit of children and adults with autism, especially in Connecticut.

Sam Posey – Connecticut’s Resident Renaissance Man – will be at Lime Rock Saturday with the last 15 copies of his latest book, Where the Writer Meets the Road. Bring cash and get in line early Saturday if you want one! (FYI, David Bull Publishing is printing a second run of WTWMTR in October.)

This Year’s Honored Collector, Wayne Carini, host of the very popular Chasing Classic Cars on Velocity Channel, has multiple autograph sessions scheduled, as do Honored Guests Peter Brock and John Morton, both of whom also authored well-received books during their storied careers.

Lime Rock Park's Historic Festival 34 runs Friday, September 2 through Labor Day Monday, September 5.
