Leist claims BRDC British Formula 3 title with Pirelli at Donington deciderBrazilian driver Matheus Leist claimed the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship title in a dramatic final round at Donington Park.
Double R Racing’s Leist came into the event 15 points behind the leader Ricky Collard, but moved into a 20-point advantage with victory in the first race as his rival failed to finish after a collision. He then finished fifth in the remaining two races, beating Carlin-run Collard on both occasions to secure the crown.

Toby Sowery finished the season with two impressive wins in the final two races, the Lanan driver working his way up from fourth on the grid in race two ahead of SWR pair Eugene Denyssen and Thomas Maxwell and leading race three from the front, with Douglas Motorsport duo Enaam Ahmed and Thomas Randle joining him on the podium.
The Pirelli-supplied BRDC British F3 series will be back in action for the Autumn Trophy at Snetterton on October 29-30.
Davidson wins twice with McLaren on return to Pirelli-backed GT CupGraham Davidson claimed two wins on his return to GT Cup at Silverstone, driving the McLaren MP4-12C taken to the 2014 title by Jim Geddie.
In wet conditions, Davidson moved to the front on the first lap of race one from fourth on the grid, and Jordan Witt spun his Bentley Continental GT3 soon afterwards in his attempts to get back on terms. While Witt finished seventh, John Dhillon took second in his Ferrari 458 GT3, with Mike Wilds third overall and first in GTC in his Challenge version.
Race two also took place in the wet with a similar result, Davidson grabbing the lead at the start and finishing 12 seconds ahead of Witt. Dhillon completed the podium.
Witt bounced back to win the dry pit stop race, building a lead early on, rejoining from his stop behind Davidson due to a success penalty but overhauling his rival to win by two seconds. Dhillon and Aaron Scott took another third place.
Wilds and his son Anthony made it a hat-trick of GTC wins, finishing ahead of the McLaren 650S Sprint of Scott Thomas and Matt Bell and Porsche of Andy Demetriou and Piers Maserati in the finale. Tom Webb claimed a clean sweep in GTB in his BMW M3 GTR. In GTA, 2015 champion Rob Gaffney won on his comeback in race one ahead of Esmee Hawkey, whose co-driver James Birch took race two victory. Race three went to Brent Millage.
The final round of the GT Cup takes place at Snetterton on October 8/9.
Armstrong snatches Scottish Rally crown in dramatic all-Pirelli fightThere was high drama in the last round of the Scottish Rally Championship as Jock Armstrong claimed his second straight title after final-stage woe for fellow Pirelli driver Garry Pearson.
In a close battle on the Galloway Hills Rally, Subaru Impreza driver Armstrong led Ford Fiesta R5 man Pearson by 12 seconds ahead of the final stage. Second-place would still have been enough for Pearson to clinch the title, but a broken engine manifold cruelly prevented him from starting the deciding test, handing Armstrong the title.
Despite Pearson’s exit there was still a sweep of the podium for Pirelli, which is the championship’s official tyre partner. Mike Faulkner scored his best result of the season in second place in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, with Mark McCulloch taking third in his similar machine.
Greg McKnight and Bruce McCombie were next in two more Pirelli-equipped Evo IXs, ahead of Andrew Gallacher in an ex-Carlos Sainz Ford Focus WRC and Quentin Milne in a Ford Escort Mk2, both also with Pirelli.
Toon's title in Pirelli-supported Porsche Club ChampionshipAndy Toon clinched the Sylatech Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli at the final round at Oulton Park earlier this month.
Second and third in his category in the two races was enough for Boxster S driver Toon to be class two champion and beat class one champion Mark McAleer to the overall crown by three points.
Mike Johnson and Steve Cheetham scored double victories in the respective classes in two wet races Cheshire. Johnson drove around the outside of the front row starters to take the lead in race one, forcing Pete Morris to settle for second while Chris Dyer beat McAleer to fourth. In class two, Toon led early on but struggled with a mist on the inside of his car and lost out to Cheetham.
In race two, Johnson grabbed the lead from Morris on lap two, with McAleer also coming through for second place but unable to do anything about the leader. Cheetham also passed Toon for the class two lead early on, while Ross Morris later claimed second.
Line gets first win in Pirelli-supplied F3 Cup to set up title showdownGeorge Line took his first victory in the F3 Cup at Silverstone to move to within two points of leader Shane Kelly ahead of the deciding round.
Line crossed the finish line of race one just ahead of Robbie Watts and James Heffernan after a close battle, but a false start penalty for Line made Watts the winner, while Heffernan was penalised for track limits offences. Daryl Jones narrowly beat Kelly and Stuart Wiltshire to what became second place.
Line made up for his error by winning in the second race after another close fight with Heffernan and Jacopo Sebastiani – who completed the podium – as well as Watts, who dropped back when he ran wide trying to pass Sebastiani.
With Kelly finishing fifth, he’s now only two points in front of Line ahead of the Snetterton season finale on October 8/9.
