Daniel Lloyd will make a welcome return to the Porsche Carrera Cup this coming weekend for the penultimate meeting of the 2016 season at ‘The Home of British Motorsport’ - Silverstone (September 16-18).
The 24-year-old has been drafted in by In2 Racing as the squad’s designated Pro driver for the pivotal meeting after Team Manager Nick Dudfield picked out Lloyd as the man to help raise the profile of the Stratford-Upon-Avon-based outfit and its 460hp Porsche 911 (type 991) GT3 Cup car.Lloyd returns to the TOCA-support package after last competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup in back to back seasons in 2012 and 2013 as a Porsche Scholarship driver. A career in GTs followed with Lloyd competing across the globe in prestigious championships The Blancpain Endurance Series, GT Asia Series and British GT Championship, before the Yorkshireman made an impressive debut in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship earlier this year – securing two front row starts in three meetings in the Eurotech Racing Honda Civic Type R.“It’s great to be making a return to the TOCA Package and Porsche Carrera Cup;” commented Lloyd. “It was a big part of my career being the Porsche scholar and I have a lot of great memories from the championship.”Lloyd went on to explain; “The phone call from Nick came out of the blue last week and I was really flattered to be asked to jump in the car as the squad’s only Pro driver. It’s been almost three years since I was last in the Porsche (997 type) so this weekend is definitely going to be a big challenge. I’ll be up against some really strong drivers who are at the high point of their season but I feel confident that we can hit the ground running and get into the mix of the action this weekend.”Ahead of his competitive debut in the type 991 on the 1.64 mile national circuit this weekend, Lloyd and the In2 Racing crew – who currently lead the Pro Am 1 Championship - enjoyed a successful last minute test at the circuit yesterday (Wednesday 14th September). “The test went very well at Silverstone;” added Lloyd. “It was the first time that I had ever worked with any of the In2 Racing team but I was really impressed with how they went about the test.“Obviously it was my first time in a Porsche since the end of 2013 so it was a bit of a culture shock, especially after coming straight out of a front-wheel drive touring car but everything is looking positive for the weekend. I can’t wait to get back out there!”Rounds 13 and 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup take place on the Silverstone national circuit on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of September. Friday 16th hosts both free practice sessions – scheduled for 09:00 and 13:30 with qualifying for round 13 at 12:05 on Saturday 17th.
Sunday 18th features both 28 lap races with round 13 commencing at 12:35 and round 14 at 16:30.
