WilSport European Junior Cup to make Lausitzring debut

The WilSport European Junior Cup, power by Honda, returns to action at the Lausitzring racetrack in Germany, four months after its last race at Misano. The junior series of the FIM Superbike World Championship enters the second half of the 2016 season, with three rounds and four individual races left – given the doubleheader scheduled for the last event in Jerez.

Heading the title race is 16-year-old Spamiard Mika Perez, who has increased his lead in the standings following main rival Hannes Soomer’s promotion to World Supersport. Soomer, who was 10 points away, made the important decision to move up a class at this round. Therefore, Perez’s main challenger for the ultimate prize is now Italy’s Paolo Grassia, who currently sits third with a 26-point gap from the top. Dorian Laville (-31), Richard Bodis (-37) and Alfonso Coppola (-39) are still well in contention for the title.

The fifth race of the 2016 WilSport European Junior Cup, powered by Honda, will get underway on Sunday 18 September at 15:15 local time (GMT +2) and can be watched live on EuropeanJuniorCup.com

It's been a long summer break for the WILSport European Junior Cup but we look forward to being on track at Eurospeedway Lausitzring for the first time. The championship has had a bit of a shake up since Misano in that second-placed rider Hannes Soomer has been promoted to World Supersport. We're very happy for Hannes to join the other former EJC riders in World Supersport and wish him the best of luck for the weekend. Mika Perez now effectively extends his championship lead, but with 4 races remaining the Championship is still very much open.- WIL Sport European Junior Cup, powered by Honda
