Daniel Cammish goes to Silverstone for rounds 13 & 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup championship with the title firmly in his grasp.
The BRDC SuperStar currently leads the standings by 44 points from nearest rival Dino Zamparelli and will be hoping that two solid finishes will seal the title. With a maximum score of 22 points on offer for each race, he only needs to outscore Zamparelli to secure the championship double, matching the feat achieved by mentor Tim Harvey.
Dan has tasted victory at Silverstone already this year when he piloted the Nationwide Crash Repair/PPG Paint-sponsored car to a double win around the Grand Prix circuit in April. This time around he will take on the much shorter 1.6 mile, 6-turn National circuit.
The Leeds-based driver claimed his maiden title at the same circuit last year by taking a brace of second places, his worst finishing position of the year. His 2016 season experienced a hiccup at Croft when technical issues relegated him down the order. Two wins a piece at Snetterton and Knockhill restored his championship challenge and he heads to the Northamptonshire-based track optimistic.
“I’m just looking forward to getting going,“ said Dan. “It seems quite a while since Knockhill so I’m looking forward to it. Silverstone National is a good circuit, it’s fairly simple so it will be tough on the times as the gaps will be very small with such a short lap. It should be a close race; we’ll see how things go. Dino was fast last year so I think we’ll be racing him for the win and Charlie [Eastwood] is there now as well.
“The plan is the same as always. We’ll take each session at a time from free practice onwards. Qualifying is the important bit because it really dictates the races to a certain extent. I tend to be quite good at extracting the lap when the pressures on though so we’ll see what we can do but no one will be driving away from me.”
Qualifying takes place on Saturday afternoon at 12:05 with round 13 on Sunday at 12:38. Round 14 follows at 16:30 with both races being broadcast live on ITV4.
