Lotus Cup Europe: Georges celebrates a double whilst Vizin takes 2016 title at Zolder

Xavier Georges scored a brace of overall victories at Zolder this weekend (17/18 September), whilst Tamas Vizin became the provisional Lotus Cup Europe champion with a perfect score in the Production class.

The event supported the FIA European Truck Racing Series in front of a strong crowd.

Returning to action after missing the previous round, Frenchman Georges headed every session and withstood pressure from Brands Hatch winner Steve Williams and later compatriot Christophe Lisandre. In the opening race Briton Williams overcame a sluggish start in his Evora to overtake his rivals and chase Georges, only to fall short by just over three seconds. Later on, a mistake by Williams triggered a safety car intervention and dropped him to the tail of the field, leaving Georges to try and keep Lisandre’s 2-Eleven at bay.

A drive-through penalty for overtaking under yellow flags dropped Lisandre down the field, promoting Swedish pair Tommie Eliasson and Robin Nilsson to podium positions to complete a V6 Exige 1-2-3.

The French Loup family celebrated 2-Eleven class wins; Jean-Baptiste taking third overall in race one, whilst father Philippe prevailed in the second encounter. Meanwhile Britain’s Harry Woodhead and France’s Christophe Laroche shared the Open class spoils.

In the Production class, Hungary’s Vizin dominated once again and with a clean sweep of victories, claimed enough points to become provisional champion. Britons Jason McInulty and Dave Carr completed the category podium in both races.

The final rounds of the FIA International Series’ 2016 season will take place at Le Mans on 8/9 October, supporting the 24 Heures Camions event.
