WOLVERHAMPTON youngster Max Clegg hopes to continue his spectacular individual form when the Elite League play-offs get underway on Wednesday. The teenage reserve has had a week he'll remember for the rest of his life after a sensational double saw him win both the British Under-19 Final plus the National League Riders' Championship – and now he’s looking to play his part in Wolves’ semi-final trip to Poole.Said Clegg: “It's been an awesome week for me but I've felt for a while that something like this was coming. Everything just seems to have clicked into place the last couple of months and I'm delighted with how things are going.“There's still lots of hard work to do though and I want to be a key part for all of my clubs.“With Wolves, we're at Poole on Wednesday and we're going there full of confidence. We're going there for the win of course but if we can't do that then it's just about keeping it as close as we can for the second leg.”

GLASGOW put one foot firmly into the League Cup Final with a 64-25 demolition of Workington in their first leg tie at Ashfield on Sunday.Aaron Summers, Rene Bach and Richie Worrall were all unbeaten as the Tigers dominated the semi-final in damp conditions, with the second leg to come at Derwent Park on Saturday.Bach said: “Things are getting better and I'm making a few starts, which makes it a lot easier.“I'm happy with today's result. We still have a tough meeting at Workington as they have a bit to prove now, but at least the job is half-done and hopefully we can go and finish it off early.“Today wasn't ideal for everyone. I didn't make a good start in heat 15 but Ricky Wells ripped his goggles off and once he did that I knew he was going to struggle the rest of the race. Fair play to him for keeping going, though.”Meanwhile Newcastle defeated Ipswich 55-37 in a Premier League clash between two play-off qualifiers at Brough Park.Robert Lambert raced to a 14-point haul for the Diamonds with Steve Worrrall on 10+1 whilst Morten Risager collected 13+1 for a weakened Witches side, who were without James Sarjeant after a Friday crash, Joe Jacobs due to illness and Danyon Hume with a broken collarbone.Newcastle boss George English said: “We really deserved this victory with the problems we've had in the pits - and our skipper, Ludvig (Lindgren) is also on tenterhooks as he is on the verge of becoming a daddy, so while he was racing here, he was certainly thinking about things elsewhere and was ready to shoot off at a moment's notice. “It was good to get a win for Danny (Phillips) tonight as well, but the lads are really pulling together as a team - so let the play-offs begin.”Ipswich manager Ritchie Hawkins said: “Morten was the highlight, he top scored and put in a really good performance and carried on his good form, he and Ben (Barker) led the side today.“Joe should be over his illness by Thursday and Sarj will be back by then too as he won't want to miss that one. He had a big crash on Friday and was a bit beaten up by it but hopefully he will back for Edinburgh.”

EASTBOURNE collected six points out of six from a busy afternoon of National League racing at Arlington. The Eagles defeated Coventry 54-36 and then got the better of Belle Vue 51-39 with Ellis Perks in blistering form, scoring 15+2 against the Storm and then 15 against the Colts.Liam Carr was also a busy rider as he collected 11+1 for his regular side and then guested for Belle Vue to good effect with 13+2, but the Colts’ play-off hopes have been severely hit by taking no points from their weekend matches.Eastbourne boss Connor Dugard said: “Six league points in the bag and that’s the play-offs. From the start of the season, our aim has been to make the play-offs and then see what happens.“We have achieved and from then on we all start level, no matter where we finished in the league. It was a great afternoon and just shows the commitment we have in this team.”Coventry manager Laurence Rogers said: “It was a battling performance and the final scoreline did not reflect the efforts of the Storm boys.“Although in pain, Liam notched two fine wins before crashing out in Heat 6 when in a comfortable lead, thankfully with no ill effects, and ended the meeting with a superb Heat 15 win when Callum (Walker) was on the tail of Perks and (Georgie) Wood.”Stoke slipped to a 43-46 home defeat at the hands of second-placed Kent at Loomer Road. The Potters attempted a comeback from a ten-point deficit at the halfway stage but fell just short despite an 11-point haul from skipper Tony Atkin.Mildenhall got the better of King’s Lynn 47-43 at West Row, with the Young Stars collecting a consolation league point from a keenly-contested local derby.Connor Coles (12+1), Dan Halsey (11+1) and Jon Armstrong (10+1) all hit double figures for the Fen Tigers, whilst the visitors were well-served by Nathan Greaves on 13+1 and Scott Campos with 11+1.Mildenhall promoter Kevin Jolly said: “It is good to finish the home league season with another victory, it was a lot closer than expected but we did throw away too many points and King’s Lynn rode with plenty of spirit. “We could never build a lead but it was another three points, and it looks like we will finish sixth at worst which I feel is a very creditable effort when you consider we have lost Connor Mountain, Kyle Hughes and Sam Bebee in the later part of the season.”King’s Lynn boss Dale Allitt said: “It's never ideal to go into any meeting with riders missing but we put up a good fight today and I think we deserved our point.“After conceding a 5-1 in the first race, we were always chasing the meeting, but credit to the lads, they held their own from there on in.“Mildenhall are a good team, especially around their own track, so to come away with something from the meeting gives us plenty of encouragement ahead of our home meeting against Rye House on Wednesday.”Rye House kept up their strong late-season home run with a comfortable 54-36 win over the Isle of Wight at Hoddesdon.Robert Branford and Ben Morley both posted maximums for the Raiders with Luke Priest unbeaten from four of his five rides, as the home side dominated the race victories.Priest said: “We are on the crest of a wave at the moment. We’re high, we’re feeling that way, and you can’t argue that we deserved to win.“Overall, it was a great team performance, and if we can do this in the last three away meetings we’ll be really happy.”

RYE House are targeting a ninth-place finish in the Premier League – if they can complete their campaign with a win over Scunthorpe on Monday. The Rockets still have a KO Cup semi-final against Newcastle to look forward to, and will operate rider-replacement for Cameron Heeps if he is not declared fit to return. The Scorpions bring in Thomas Jorgensen to guest for Josh Auty, and Nathan Stoneman rides at reserve in place of Josh Bailey, where he will be joined by Josh Bates as Carl Wilkinson is ruled out after a crash on Friday.Rye House boss Peter Schroeck said: “Nobody was prepared to give us that ninth place a few weeks ago, so we are really chuffed with that opportunity. “It’s a must-win – we want to win at home in our last League match and we want to show the crowd what we are all about both this season and as a lead-in to the future. We’re on a real high at the moment; all the boys are really positive and we are hoping for a good night.”Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s coming to the end of the season, we’ve completed our home meetings, and we’re not going to finish bottom.“On the face of it, we’ve got little to go for in this meeting, but we think we’ve got a chance to take a win and we’re going to give it a go, and we’ve booked our guests accordingly, so that we’re as strong as we would be with our full team.”In the Travel Plus National League, Cradley are looking to effectively seal a play-off place when they take on second-placed Kent at Monmore Green.Wins at Stoke and Buxton last week put the Heathens back in the frame and they have booked former favourite Tom Perry to guest for the injured Luke Chessell.Cradley captain Max Clegg said: “We did the job last week, but that’s not the end – we have to keep it going now. We’ve shown we can do it and we need to keep working hard so we don’t have any more bad spells.“Kent have been having a good season, and their track isn’t too dissimilar to ours so they aren’t going to be easy opposition.“We’re definitely capable of beating anyone at home, but we’ll need all the boys to do their bit again and be at their best.”
