Team and drivers with good chances of title win in BarcelonaFour Mercedes-AMG GT3 competing in Sprint-Cup and GT Sports Club After a strong team performance at the Endurance Cup Finale at the Nürburgring last week, in which the AMG-Team HTP Motorsport collected important points for the championship, the season finale of the Blancpain GT Series takes place in Barcelona next weekend. Season Finale of Sprint-Cup in Barcelona The international GT Championship debuts at the Circuit de Catalunya just outside the Spanish metropole of Barcelona. After the AMG-Team HTP Motorsport extended its gap in the Overall and Sprint Championship, everything is wide open in the finale race of the season. Whilst the team is running in first place in both the Overall (26 points ahead) and Sprint standings (nine points ahead), the chances for the HTP-drivers are also very good.
Maximilian Buhk (GER) and Dominik Baumann (A) are currently five points clear in the Overall Championship. The German-Austrian driver pairing is running in P2 in the Sprint ranking with a gap of 17 points. Team-mates Jules Szymkowiak (NDL) and Bernd Schneider (GER) are currently running in 3rd place thanks to their great season.
The season finale of the Blancpain GT Series takes place in Barcelona (Spain) on 1st and 2nd October 2016.Endurance-Cup Finale Review at the Nürburgring At the last race of the Endurace Cup at the Nürburgring held last weekend, the driver squad of Buhk (GER), Baumann (A) and Jaafar (MYS) finished in a competitive fourth place to keep their chances alive of securing the drivers title.
The #85 Mercedes-AMG GT3 demonstrated once again a sensational drive. Clemens Schmid (A) started from P26 into the race and had fought his way up into 18th position after one lap only. Before the first driver change, the car was running in a fantastic 14th place, but an Audi forced the car into a spin and the great charge through the field was stopped. Despite having missed a good and well-deserved position, all three drivers paraded a great performance and proofed that they belong into the championship.
“The entire team and the drivers showed a very good performance, but unfortunately we missed out on the Endurance Cup title”, says Norbert Brückner, Team Principal AMG-Team HTP Motorsport. “We still have the chance in Barcelona to secure the title for the team and for our drivers Buhk and Baumann.
“It was a really great season with ups and downs, but especially our drivers Schmid, Bacheta and Dontje suffered a lot of bad luck, because they could and should have secured much better end results. But they never gave up and fought until the last corner with their heads up high, and I would like to thank them for that. We will give everything as a team at the coming weekend and are highly motivated, to get the best possible result.”
