Season Finale of Blancpain GT Series in Barcelona (Spain)Buhk/Baumann have best chances of securing driver´s title
The AMG-driver Maximilian Buhk narrowly missed out on winning the Endurance Cup a week ago, but the Hamburg-based driver has all the chances of securing the Overall and Sprint Championship of the Blancpain GT Series together with his Austrian team-mate Dominik Baumann this coming weekend. The Blancpain GT Series premieres at the Formula One Track Circuit de Catalunya. Buhk is already familiar with the circuit, since he participated in the 24-hours-race of the Creventic Series at the beginning of the months, collecting important data and laps. “Barcelona is a great track”, says the 23-year-old. “It is a very flowing layout and the fast corners are a lot of fun to drive through. It is a demanding track that is underestimated every so often.”
The race in the run for the Championship title in both the Overall and Sprint rankings will be a tough fight down to the last corner, because the advantage of five points in the Overall Championship is no guarantee at the beginning of the weekend. “Five points are next to nothing in this highly competitive championship”, says Maximilian Buhk. “It is a small advantage, but the other drivers will also give their best to secure the title. We simply have to stay calm and focus, drive a controlled race and avoid making mistakes. Then we should be in a good position.”
Whilst Buhk and Baumann are expecting a tight fight for the title, the AMG-Team HTP Motorsport has an advantage of 14 points (Overall rankings) and nine points in the Sprint Championship, running in first place in both. Buhk and Baumann are five points clear in the Overall rankings. In the Sprint Championship, the German-Austrian driver pairing are currently in second position with 17 points behind the leaders.
The season finale of the Blancpain GT Series takes place on 1st and 2nd October in Barcelona (Spain).
