FIA World Rally ChampionshipOgier wins his home race in Corsica
Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) won their home rally in the FIA World Cup Rally Championship, the Rally France. The Volkswagen duo dominated the demanding asphalt event in Corsica from the word go. They finished the ten special stages 46.4 seconds clear of second-placed Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul (B/B, Hyundai). Fellow Volkswagen drivers Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger (N/N) and Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) finished third and fourth. Ogier (195 points) leads the Drivers’ Championship, ahead of Mikkelsen (127) and Neuville (112), and is on the verge of winning his fourth world championship. The next round of the WRC is the Rally Spain from 13 to 16 October.
FIA World Rallycross ChampionshipKristoffersson keeps title chances alive with strong display in Latvia
Two races before the end of the season, Johan Kristoffersson (S) produced an impressive display in Latvia to keep any hope of winning the FIA World Rallycross Championship alive for himself and the Volkswagen RX Sweden team. This week, at the wheel of the Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar, climbed into second place overall with 201 points, behind championship leader Mattias Ekström (S, Audi, 228 points). “The rest of the season is set to be a real thriller,” said Kristoffersson, who finished runner-up in the first semi-final and fifth in the final. The penultimate race weekend and season will take place at the Estering (D) from 14 to 16 October.
FIA Formula 3 European ChampionshipKari wins in Imola, Eriksson is third
Volkswagen driver Niko Kari (FIN) claimed his first win of the season at the Formula 3 European event in Imola (I). The first of three races at the former Formula 1 race track saw the young Finn defeat Canadian Lance Stroll, who clinched the title in Imola with races still to come. Fellow Volkswagen driver Joel Eriksson (S) was an impressive third and tightened his grip on the rookie competition. The Swede went one better in race two, finishing just 1.399 seconds behind the victorious Stroll in second place, making him the best-placed Volkswagen driver. Eriksson was fifth in the third and final race on Sunday. Hockenheim (D) hosts the season finale of the Formula 3 European Championship from 14 to 16 October.
TCR International SeriesPodium for Comini in the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR
Stefano Comini (CH) claimed another podium finish in the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR at round ten of the TCR International Series. The Leopard Racing team driver finished second behind Roberto Colciago (I/Honda) in the opening race in Sepang (MAL). Third place went to championship leader James Nash (GB/Seat). Comini had to settle 18th place in race to, after picking up a 30-second penalty for causing a collision. Comini’s team-mate Jean-Karl Vernay (F) finished fifth in both races. Comini tightened his grip on second place in the overall standings and now lies behind Nash (262) and ahead of Pepe Oriola (Seat/229) with 245 points to his name. Vernay is fourth overall with 223 points. The season finale will take place in Macau (CN) from 18 to 20 November.
TCR GermanyTwo fifth-place finishes for the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR
Benjamin Leuchter (D) and Kai Jordan (D) claimed to 5th-place finishes with the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR at the season finale of the TCR Germany series at the Hockenheimring (D). Leuchter crossed the line fifth in race one after 17 laps of racing. The win went to Josh Files (GB/Honda), who also secured overall victory. Tom Lautenschlager (D) and Jordan finished seventh and ninth in their Golf GTI TCR cars. Jordan ended Sunday’s second race in fifth place, with Steve Kirsch (D/Honda) taking the win.
Volkswagen Vento Cup IndiaDodhiwala wins the title – Jhabakh best rookie
Ishaan Dodhiwala (IND) has secured the championship title in this year’s Volkswagen Vento Cup India by winning the final race of the season held at the Buddh International Circuit near Delhi (IND). Karminder Pal Singh (IND) won the decisive race but Dodhiwala’s second place was enough to beat him in the championship as he had started into the weekend with an advantage of 32 points. Meanwhile, Jeet Jhabakh (IND) became rookie of the year. He finished 13th out of 18.
Volkswagen Polo Cup RussiaPalkin wins round five of the season
Pavel Palkin (RUS) is the winner of Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia’s fifth round. Near the city of Pskov in the northeast of Russia, Palkin took victory after nine special stages and 100.70 competitive kilometres on a mix of tarmac and gravel. Yuriy Uryukov and Aleksander Bukhantsov (both RUS) finished second and third, respectively.
Volkswagen Fun Cup FranceDéfi Bâticonfort and Zosh win in Lédenon
The two teams Défi Bâticonfort and Zosh have won the races of round eight of this year‘s Volkswagen Fun Cup France. Two races had to be completed at the race track of Lédenon, each three and a half hours long. Défi Bâticonfort won the first race ahead of the TFE team, Zosh finished third. Later, the Zosh team won the second race, followed by Défi Bâticonfort and TFE. The final race of the 2016 Fun Cup France will be held in Nogaro (F) from 22 to 23 October.
