Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan enjoyed a successful end to the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season after wrapping up the Independents title at Brands Hatch.Andrew went into the weekend embroiled in a two-way fight for the title with his Motorbase Performance team-mate Mat Jackson, whilst he was also one of eight drivers still in with a mathematical chance of the overall championship crown.Qualifying 13th on the grid after a challenging session held in mixed weather conditions, Andrew was confident of making up places in the opening race but was forced to retire on the second lap when he was unable to avoid the stricken car of Hunter Abbott after the Chevrolet driver suffered a spin at Druids.Hard work from his team in the pits allowed Andrew to take his place at the back of the grid for race two, and a fine performance saw him scythe his way through the field to 13th place by the flag – maintaining his advantage in the points going into the season finale.Eleventh in race three allowed Andrew to wrap up the Independents’ title for the third time in his career, having previously taken the honour in both 2012 and 2013.Alongside his overall title in 2013, it meant a fourth championship success for Pirtek Racing at the end of a solid season that included two overall victories and five podium finishes.“The main aim coming to Brands Hatch was to wrap up the Independents’ title and I’m delighted that we got the job done,” Andrew said. “The BTCC field this season has arguably been more competitive than ever with lots of strength in depth, so to come away from the season with a championship title is a fantastic achievement for everyone who is involved with this programme.“To win one title in the BTCC takes a lot of hard work, so it gives me a great deal of pride to have added a third Independents’ title to the overall crown I won in 2013. It certainly wasn’t as easy as it could have been because of the incident in race one, but I think the way in which we fought back through the field in race two shows how strong the Pirtek Racing package is.“As ever in this game, there have been ups and downs as the season has gone, but on the whole I’m really pleased with how it has gone. The aim was to win races, fight at the front of the field, and pick up some silverware this season; which is exactly what we have done.“I’m particularly proud to have helped Motorbase win its first BTCC titles and I think we have built the foundations for something good for the future. Having wrapped up the Indy title, there is no doubt that I have my eyes on the main prize again in 2017.”
