GREAT Britain teenager Robert Lambert is celebrating a bronze medal finish in the World Under-21 Final.King’s Lynn and Newcastle youngster Lambert, in his first year in the competition at the age of 18, defeated Australian rider Jack Holder in a run-off for third overall at Sunday’s final round in Gdansk. The series was won by another Australian, Max Fricke of Belle Vue, who finished six points clear of Poland’s Krystian Pieszczek.Lambert said: “What an exciting night! I never thought I would be able to get on the podium after my fourth race.“I have the best team around me and without them it would not have been bronze.“I’d like to say a big thank you to them and all the fans out there who have been supporting me.”

WOLVERHAMPTON and Belle Vue clash at Monmore Green on Monday in the first leg of the Elite League Grand Final.Wolves are seeking their first league title since 2009, whilst the Aces have to go right back to 1993 for their previous triumph – when they defeated Wolves in a last-night, last-heat decider prior to the play-off era. Both sides are at full strength with Wolves trying to build a first leg lead – but the Aces are the only visiting team to have won at Monmore this season.Wolves captain Fredrik Lindgren said: “Whatever happens on Monday, it's only half the job done for either side, but we really want a win so we have something to take to Belle Vue on Wednesday.“When we beat Swindon in 2009, we had the home leg first and if you can win you know what you've got to hold onto in the second leg.“Having said that, we'll be going to Belle Vue on Wednesday looking to get a win anyway because we all loved the track last time we were there and we only just missed out by a couple of points.“We're full of confidence; it was an awesome performance to get past Poole last week and we want to carry on from where we left off - that's the aim!”Belle Vue star Steve Worrall said: “We’re the only team to have beaten them at Monmore Green this year so of course that gives us a great boost of confidence ahead of the first leg, and it’s a track we all quite enjoy riding as well.“Since we were last there though they have brought Tai Woffinden back into their side which will no doubt have an impact on proceedings, but for us he’s just another opposing rider to be beaten.“When it boils down to it, all the boys are really pumped up for this Final. We didn’t finish top of the league for nothing. We’re fully capable of lifting the trophy on Wednesday. Now it’s time to prove it.”

SHEFFIELD are through to the Premier League play-off semi-Finals after a dramatic 92-88 aggregate victory over Newcastle. The Tigers struck a last-heat 5-1 to snatch an unlikely win in the tie despite a narrow 46-44 second leg defeat at Brough Park. The depleted Yorkshiremen were defending a six-point lead after the first leg at Owlerton last week - and the aggregate scores were level entering a tense final race. But star man Kyle Howarth and impressive guest Ricky Wells performed heat 15 heroics to keep the Tigers’ title dreams well and truly alive – meaning the teams finishing fifth and sixth in the table have defeated those in third and fourth in the play-offs.Sheffield boss Eric Boocock said: “It was a brilliant result, and we could have won by more if not for some decisions which didn’t go our way early on.“We still got through on aggregate and that’s the main thing. The team spirit was fantastic, the three guest riders gave us 110 per cent and were absolutely tremendous – you couldn’t ask for any more. “We’ve got another two meetings now and the lads can make it or break it. If the lads want it enough then they’re only two meetings away from the final, so it’s all to play for.”Newcastle boss George English said: “I have to congratulate Sheffield on their aggregate win, they rode well as a team to get there and you can't knock that.“But we at Newcastle are immensely disappointed with this play-off tie, and not just tonight's second leg as we could have taken more points down at Sheffield last week in the first place and that could have tipped the balance before we even started tonight.”

GLASGOW booked their place in the Premier League KO Cup Final with a 50-39 second leg win over holders Somerset at Ashfield. And Tigers star Richard Lawson says they are gunning for a hat-trick of trophies as they remain involved in the title play-offs and the League Cup.Lawson scored 11+1 with in-form Richie Worrall collecting 14 as the home side made it through a bruising encounter in which Rene Bach was left sore after a Heat 14 crash.Lawson said: “All I want to do is win those trophies and we're in the fight for three of them. It's looking good and everyone is riding well, so we just need to keep it going and prove to everyone that we can do it."We're getting a bit greedy but we want to do that treble. We've got a long way to go but we're putting ourselves in the right position to do it and we are capable of it."Somerset boss Garry May said: “Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Despite facing an uphill task, the boys never gave up the chase, and although I thought we gave a pretty good account of ourselves, it wasn’t enough and congratulations to Glasgow on their win and with it a place in the KO Cup Final.“As far as we are concerned, it’ll be a case of putting today’s defeat behind us as we look to re-group and focus our attentions on the visit of Ipswich to the Oaktree Arena on Friday night in the first leg of our play-off semi-final against the Witches.”

THREE Birmingham riders secured paid maximums as they stormed to a 61-29 Travel Plus National League victory at Buxton.Tom Perry and Tom Bacon both went unbeaten by an opposition rider while 16-year-old reserve Jack Parkinson-Blackburn put in a sensational showing to score paid 21 from his full quota of seven rides. However, Brummies duo Darryl Ritchings and Jack Smith didn't make the trip to the D&P Raceway due to illness, and club boss Graham Drury admits there is some slight concern ahead of Thursday's huge home play-off semi-final clash against Cradley.Said Drury: “Darryl and Jack are suffering from really bad cases of influenza and upset stomachs and rang me within half-an-hour of each other to tell me there was no way they could race feeling how they were.“With Zach (Wajtknecht) definitely out of Thursday's play-off and Humey (Danyon Hume) still highly unlikely to return as well, it is a concern that Darryl and Jack really sound like they're struggling as well. But there's nothing we can do on that one apart from play the waiting game.“At Buxton, we put in another dominant showing and the confidence is certainly flowing. Luke Priest was a great guest and the two Toms were superb.“As for Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, what a talent he is and what an ace in our pack he is!”(FIXTURES)
