Luca Ghiotto scored his maiden GP2 win by leading from start to finish in race 2 at Sepang. Philo Armand was forced to retire after being involved in a contact.Luca Ghiotto captured a well-deserved maiden win in the GP2 Series today at Sepang. The Italian racer started from the second row on the grid and cruised to the lead straight away. The 21-year-old did not commit a single mistake throughout the race, crossing the line in front of fellow countryman Raffaele Marciello and capping an outstanding second half of the season that had already provided him with two second-place finishes.Ghiotto was eventually able to celebrate on the top step of the podium today. “I’m so happy for this win which comes in the latest part of the season” - said Ghiotto - “Maybe I would have deserved it a little earlier, but I’m absolutely satisfied for both myself and the team. It was vital for us to finally break the ice. In many other circumstances we had been even quicker than today. But I think that this win also came with strategy. We had a perfect start and we managed well the tyres. The final laps were tense, with Marciello pushing behind me!”The first corner was a big concern for the Italian: “Many drivers braked very late and I was afraid I was going to be hit. We also had some heated moments after the re-start but we managed it and held onto the lead”. Today’s win enabled Ghiotto to inch closer to the top-5 in standings, his main goal for the season. “The goal is still in our frame and I will give my 100% to catch up with the other guys out front. I’m looking forward to it, after accomplishing my other goal of winning my maiden GP2 Series race!”.Lining-up alongside Ghiotto, Indonesian driver Philo Armand was involved in a contact and the damage on his car forced him to retire. A pity considering the consistent performance put together by the Jakarta-born driver.
