GLASGOW sealed their first trophy of their new era with a dominant display to take the Premier League Knockout Cup on Monday. The Tigers thrashed Newcastle 59-31 to bring silverware to Ashfield for the first time since their £2 million takeover in 2014.They produced a dominant team performance despite seeing reserve Danny Ayres crash out of the meeting in Heat 2, suffering shoulder and wrist injuries.Richard Lawson (12), Aaron Summers (11+1), Richie Worrall (11) and guest Arthur Sissis (10+2) all hit double-figures for the home side, with Robert Lambert picking up 10 for the Diamonds.Glasgow boss Stewart Dickson said: “I'm overjoyed and ecstatic. It's the first trophy under the new era for the Facennas. Getting that first one was always going to be the most difficult, I felt.“You listen to the noise and atmosphere - this is what it's all about.“The supporters have waited a couple of years and we've had to watch our neighbours in the east at Edinburgh winning trophy after trophy, so it's nice to get off the mark under the Facennas, and there are hopefully more to come.”Newcastle boss George English said: “I know we were pleased to get the draw on Sunday at our own track, but realistically we were always going to be the underdogs tonight and should have had the tie in our control before we travelled north. “Unfortunately for us, once Heat 3 came around Glasgow were in control thereon in, and thoroughly deserved their cup win, and we congratulate them completely on a great Final performance.”

SOMERSET boss Garry May says there will be no under-estimating Sheffield when the sides meet in the Premier League Grand Final this week. The Rebels are chasing their second title having reached their fourth Final in five years – their two defeats both being by a single race point! They led the league table ahead of the play-offs and now take on the sixth-placed Tigers who have already created two major upsets by defeating Newcastle and Glasgow.May said: “We start the Grand Final with a clean slate for both teams, and what has gone before this year counts for nothing as far as the two legs of the Final are concerned.“I know that some people are making us favourites, but Sheffield have got to the final by beating the third and second placed teams and so cannot be taken lightly.”

MAN of the moment Arthur Sissis has called on Sheffield to deliver one final push in their pursuit of Premier League glory.Sissis performed heroics at reserve to lead the Tigers to a dramatic play-off semi-final win over Glasgow, and they now host Somerset in the first leg of the Grand Final at Owlerton on Wednesday before travelling to the Oaktree Arena 24-hours later.Said Sissis: “I don’t think anyone was expecting us to go through, not even ourselves if we’re being honest, but we managed to just do enough which was awesome.“The last time we went to Glasgow we got beat by about 20 points, the same at Newcastle, so the last two results have shown what we can do. “It’ll be hard again against Somerset, but we said the same against Newcastle and Glasgow!“If we can all play our part again then maybe we can surprise everyone one more time and go all the way.”(FIXTURES)
