New Zealander Marcus Armstrong will compete in this weekend’s Duo BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy at Snetterton (29/30 October) with Double R Racing, it has been confirmed today (27 October). The Christchurch-born youngster only recently made his single-seater debut, competing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and Northern European Cup (NEC) categories, but has already impressed, taking fourth place on his first outing in the NEC at the Nurburgring in Germany.16-year-old Armstrong has also been competing in world level karting this year, contesting the WSK Champions Cup, Super Master Series and the CIK-FIA World Championship in the KZ category. Prior to that, he finished as runner-up in the 2015 South Garda Winter Cup and was extremely successful in his native country, claiming the 2014 Kartsport NZ National Sprint Championship and the 2013 Rotax Max Challenge NZ title in the junior class.
Armstrong will be ineligible for points in the Duo BRDC British F3 Autumn Trophy as he will be racing on a non-EU licence.
Armstrong said: “I'm excited to be competing in the Duo BRDC British F3 Autumn Trophy this weekend. I haven't driven the car yet but it looks really impressive and I'm glad we have plenty of track time ahead of qualifying on Saturday so I can get up to speed.”
Anthony Hieatt, Team Principal of Double R Racing, commented: “Marcus is a really quick young peddler so it is great to have him in the car for this weekend. Whilst he isn’t eligible to score points, we are sure that he will be pushing as hard as possible to claim some silverware and to show what he can do on track.”
The 2016 Duo BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy enables drivers to get their first taste of British F3 whilst also offering additional mileage for those drivers remaining with the championship for a second campaign.
