Cape Town race driver Jonathan Aberdein enjoyed a brilliant start to his winter campaign when he qualified on pole position before going on to win all three of Abu Dhabi's Formula 4 UAE Trophy races at the Yas Marina grand prix circuit over the weekend. It was also Aberdein's first ever main circuit victory.
"Yes! First win in single seaters in the bag!" ," the Fresnaye youngster admitted. "We came over as a dress rehearsal for the Formula 4 UAE series that starts in the middle of November and I am delighted with the results. "I enjoyed a clean sweep with pole position and three race wins - it really could not have been a better weekend."
Jonathan qualified on pole position before storming to the first race victory as he held off Motopark Racing teammate, US driver Logan Sargeant to win by 0.1 seconds, with another American, Ricky Donnisnon third in Friday evening's opening race. Aberdein had an easier run in the second race as Sargeant fought back after a poor start, to beat Donnison to third, while the top three remained the same at the chequered flag for the third race.
Aberdein was thrilled with his preparation for the Formula 4 UAE series, which he is in turn competing in in anticipation of his 2017 European race campaign. "That was a great weekend," Aberdein concluded. "Big thanks to the Motopark boys for a great job as always - I am going home super proud and happy!"
Jonathan returns to the Emirates for the first round of the Formula 4 UAE series in Dubai 18-19 November.
