MARK Riss will join brother Erik back at Edinburgh in the SGB Championship next season. He came into the Monarchs’ line-up midway through the 2016 campaign and is now expected to start at reserve on a 4.00 average.Riss said: “I am very pleased to be back with the Monarchs. I haven’t talked with Ricky Wells yet but I think he is a nice guy. “I think it would be good if I can start at reserve and get more points at the beginning. I would feel comfortable then when I went into the team at maybe number 3 or 4.“It was a learning process for my first year, different from Germany. It was hard to get into it but I felt quite comfortable in the end. I can do a lot better next year. I have got the Armadale track dialled in now, and I really like it. I feel I can ride outside and inside.”

MATT Williamson is to return to Buxton in the National League next season as the Hitmen’s new No.1.Williamson started his career at the Hi-Edge Raceway in 2013 and has since enjoyed high-scoring spells with Cradley and Belle Vue, leading to a team place with Workington in the second tier.Buxton boss Jason Pipe said: “I'm very excited to have an out-and-out No.1 for next season. Matt comes into the side with a very high average of 9.49, but we are lucky to be in a position where that really doesn't affect us too much.“Matt is very much capable of upping his NL average above 10.00 next season and I'm very much looking forward to working with him and seeing him gel and pass on his knowledge to the rest of the team. “Having someone like him in the team can also give us a very good chance of making the Fours and Best Pairs events, which are always good to take part in. I also believe he will be the one to beat in the NLRC.”

IPSWICH have commenced track work at Foxhall in a bid to provide more entertaining racing next season.Witches promoter Chris Louis says he has taken inspiration from watching the action at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium, although he admits the two circuits are inherently different.Louis said: “We’re taking up to two metres off going into both bends but we’re doing it over quite a long distance so the turn into the corner starts much earlier. “The idea is to physically give the riders more room going into the corner. It also takes out the slight squareness and sharpness once you get there.“You can’t watch a season of racing at Belle Vue and not think, ‘How can we take some of that back to our track?’ That is what we’ve done really. It won’t be Belle Vue but we are trying to learn a bit from it and put some effort in to improve what we have.”
