Nicolai Kjaergaard will race in the 2017 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship with Fortec Motorsports, it was announced today. The Danish driver remains with the team following his rookie season in single-seater racing in British Formula 4 during 2016.
The 17-year-old tested the British F3 Tatuus-Cosworth at Snetterton in October before committing to the championship for next year.
The Dane made his single-seater circuit race debut in 2016 with Fortec in the F4 British Championship, achieving a number of competitive results on his way to third position in the Rookie Cup. Prior to that, Kjaergaard enjoyed a successful karting career, competing in both European and world-level events.
Kjaergaard will make his full BRDC British Formula 3 Championship debut at Oulton Park on Easter Weekend (15/17 April) when the 2017 season gets underway.
Kjaergaard said: “After a good first season in single seater cars with Fortec Motorsports in the British F4 championship it felt natural for me to stay with the team for another season. I hope to continue my development as a racing driver and get some great results during our 2017 British F3 campaign.”
Russell Dixon, team manager, Fortec Motorsports British F3 added: “I'm delighted that Nicolai Kjaergaard has moved up from our British F4 team to compete in BRDC F3 next year. Initially he did a one-off test at Anglesea in June, but was so impressed with the car’s performance he did three more days with us. During these tests his confidence grew and showed rapid progress. I'm confident that by the time we have completed all of the pre-season testing he will be very competitive during 2017 and be podium-hunting!”
