SAM Masters believes his win in the Australian Championship second round has put him in the frame for the gold medal.The Wolverhampton and Edinburgh star triumphed in Mildura over the weekend and is six points behind leader Davey Watt at the halfway stage of the series, and also trails Justin Sedgmen by three.Masters said: “Gillman was the first round and that was my weakest track of the championship.“I feel great after winning the second round and it’s made me feel pretty confident of making a push to win the title.“If I can have a strong finish then I reckon I’ll be pretty close at least. I’m just so happy with the way I’m feeling and riding and let’s see if I can carry it on.”

SEVEN British Champions from the 2016 season are set to appear in a Celebration of British Youth Speedway this Saturday.Senior champion Danny King, U21 and U19 winners Josh Bates and Max Clegg, and Youth champions Kyle Bickley, Leon Flint, Nathan Ablitt and Dan Thompson have all been invited and are expected to be in attendance with their trophies at the Brandon Club, Coventry (Jan 14, 7pm).Steve Brandon will be hosting the event, which is run by British Youth series sponsors Nuneaton Speedway Supporters’ Club.Youth chief Neil Vatcher said: “There will be presentations and interviews through the night.“As well as the seven British Champions, there will be a number of stars from the British Youth Championship also in attendance, along with the Young Lions Management and a number of Youth sponsors.“All proceeds from the evening get put back into British Youth Speedway, so definitely not a night to be missed if you’re in the area.”
