SCUNTHORPE newcomer Stefan Nielsen has high hopes for the remainder of the 2017 season with the Scorpions.
The former British Under-19 Champion made an impressive seasonal debut for the club on Sunday, scoring 10+2 in the 56-34 home win over Berwick.
Nielsen said: “Of course, it’s the second time Scunthorpe have given me an opportunity, because they were the first club that I ever rode for. They gave me a chance after a David Howe training school around 2010 or 2011, and I rode for their National League side.
“I’m happy to now have a team spot and be able to show what I can do. I’ve told everyone how well I could go if someone gave me a team place, and now I’ve got one, I need to prove that. I guess being left out for the opening month has given me a little extra motivation.
“It’s a good, solid team. I’m looking forward to gelling with rest of the boys. I realise that Scunthorpe have struggled a bit at the start of the year, but I think we’ve now got a team which can go out and get results.”

KING’S LYNN Young Stars are aiming to secure their first win of the season when they host Eastbourne at the Adrian Flux Arena tonight (Wednesday).
The Norfolk outfit have endured a tough start to their Travel Plus National League campaign after suffering heavy defeats to both Cradley and Birmingham, with the Eagles having won both of their opening two fixtures.
Lynn co-promoter Dale Allitt said: “I think we’re in for a good meeting against Eastbourne as they’re a solid looking side.
“From our point of view, Josh Bailey is looking to use his National League meetings to keep his head and his confidence up and he knows he can get the better of the Eastbourne lads to do that.
“Danny Phillips is keen to reach double figures again and hopefully we’ll see Ryan Kinsley using his GTR engine.
“The only time he’s ridden it before was the day directly after he’d received it which was far from ideal. But a few weeks have passed since then so he’s had more chance to work with it and get a bit of practice in and hopefully we’ll see the results of that on Wednesday.”
The visitors have a doubt over Kelsey Dugard, who suffered thumb and scaphoid damage in a crash at Arlington on Saturday.
Manager Connor Dugard said: “Hopefully it is not as bad as he thinks. If he is tentative and it isn’t safe, not only for him but the other riders, then isn’t fair at all for everyone if he rides.”

PLYMOUTH have appointed Benji Compton as their new team captain.
The Devils elected to make a switch to the position to enable former skipper Richard Andrews to concentrate more on his own racing.
Co-promoter Mark Phillips said: “This is no sleight on Richie who has been geeing up the lads and trying to help them, but we were concerned that rather than helping his own racing, it wasn’t.
“He needs to be spending more time concentrating on that. This change will allow Richard to focus more on racing and use the ability he has to get his points scoring up to where we know he is capable of.
“Benji has been helping the young lads and advising them, and we moved him in the pits to be beside Rob (Parker) and Henry (Atkins) which has helped them a lot. He is up for doing the job and will support them all in any ways he can.”
