Croatian driver Martin Kodric was delighted to take an impressive win in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup this weekend (12-14 May).
The 19-year-old made up more than 20 places overall in a brilliant spell behind the wheel of his Lamborghini Huracan GT3 at Silverstone.
Plenty of pace combined with skillful overtakes ensured his team were in a leading position in the Pro-Am class by the time his stint was over.
His Barwell Motorsports teammate brought the car over the line after a nail-biting finish to give them a well-deserved victory.
He said: “What a weekend! It was a brilliant few days, everything came together and we took a really well-deserved win.
“Personally, I had a great drive. I got the car from P42 overall and 11th in class, to P20 and first in class, with some great overtakes.
“Then Patrick did a great job to bring the car home by fourth-tenths! It was a dramatic ending, but as a team we gelled so well this weekend.”
With 55 teams on the entry list, the team used the free practice to work on the set-up and were confident they would do well in qualifying.
The Barwell Motorsports team of Kodric, AM driver Adrian Amstutz and Patrick Kujala were keen to make amends after some bad luck left them finishing in ninth in the first round.
But they hit the ground running this time around, with their pace in qualifying helping them to P7 overall and second in class.
Going out first in the race, Amstutz was unlucky with some contact that left the car slightly damaged and the driver back in 13th in class. He managed to get it back to 11th in class and P42 overall by the end of his stint. Martin took on the challenge, slowly moving up the grid with some perfectly executed overtakes. After a tremendous spell he left the car with Kujala with the team in first place in class and 20th overall. Kujala drove well to keep the lead but was spun by another car near the end of the race. However, he managed to hold on for a brilliant win that sees them move to second in the Pro-Am category.
Martin added: “It’s our first win, but hopefully not our last. Everybody did a great job. Now we have hit our stride, this can be the first of many.”The five-round competition now sees the team heading to Circuit Paul Ricard in June.
Fraser Sheader, director of performance and management team ADD Motorsports, added: “It was a super performance from us and a great first win for the team. “It all came together today. The qualifying was really good and although Adrian was taken out in his spell, Martin really pulled it back together. He got the team the lead in his stint and drove really well.
