KING’S Lynn moved into the SGB Premiership top four with a hard-fought 49-41 win over Rye House at the Adrian Flux Arena.
The Stars trailed by four points after five races and were forced to dig deep - but they demonstrated plenty of character to cancel out a stunning 15-point maximum from Rockets’ man Chris Harris.
Troy Batchelor (11) and Robert Lambert (10+1) were both in double figures for the hosts, with reserve Kai Huckenbeck adding 9+1.
And co-promoter Rob Lyon, who stepped in for Dale Allitt as team boss due to illness, was delighted with the effort shown by his side.
Said Lyon: “It was a hard-fought, workmanlike performance and we were delighted to get the three points.
“There was some excellent racing and to be fair Rye House probably deserved a point because they were right in it until the end.
“Obviously from our point of view it was important to not only get the three points ourselves but to stop them getting anything as well.
“As a play-off rival that one point could be crucial, so we were pleased to square off that final race and seal the win by eight points.”
Rye House boss Peter Schroeck said: “Bomber was absolutely flying, and the racing was fast and furious, but the final result has left us a bit flat.
“We knew that King’s Lynn would come back at us as the match wore on, but we deserved something from tonight, and to go so close to an away point yet miss out is so frustrating.”

BIRMINGHAM are back on top of the Travel Plus National League after a 55-35 win over Buxton at Perry Barr.
The visitors’ new-look top order scored well with Matt Williamson (13) dropping just two points, and Max Clegg adding 10+1 on his debut, but the Brummies were the more solid all-round team.
Jack Parkinson-Blackburn led the way for the hosts with 10+1, whilst Tom Bacon and Liam Carr both notched 10, with boss Graham Drury also impressed with the contributions from his lower-order.
Drury said: “While our heat-leaders were magnificent, I think we do have to pay special praise to Layne (Cupitt), Macauley (Leek) and Kyle (Roberts).
"They scored 18 points between the three of them whereas if you take away Buxton's top two riders, they only managed 12 between their other five.
"We're growing as a team meeting by meeting and I couldn't be happier with the lads after tonight.
"They rode their hearts out and in addition they put on a great, entertaining show for the supporters because some of the racing tonight I thought was very good indeed."

POOLE have snapped up Grzegorz Zengota as a temporary replacement for injured fellow Pole Krzysztof Kasprzak.
Zengota, who has had previous top-flight spells in the UK with Swindon and Coventry, is set to make his Pirates debut at Wolverhampton on Monday.
Promoter Matt Ford said: “I did not want to rely on guests or rider replacement whilst KK is still sidelines and the availability of ‘Zengy’ gives us the chance to continue to operate with a regular number one.
“Krzysztof will need time to fully recover and get himself back into the best shape possible as he is determined to pick up his form after his indifferent start to the season.
“I would stress this is an injury replacement move, in much the same way as we brought in Lewis Kerr after Kyle’s (Newmna) start of season injury, and so providing Krzysztof has proved to us that he is fully fit after 28 days we will look to re-instate him to the team and give him that opportunity to prove that he can rekindle his number one form.”

SHEFFIELD host Glasgow in a top-half SGB Championship clash at Owlerton tonight (Thursday).
The Yorkshire side have won five of their last six league fixtures while their Scottish opponents have picked up at least one league point from their four away matches so far.
Sheffield star Josh Bates said: “Glasgow are one of the stronger teams on paper this season and they’re doing good on the track as well.
“They’re solid all the way down from No.1; they’ve got really good heat-leaders, a decent middle order and two good reserves as well.
“But we’re Sheffield and for me we’re even better. We need to go out there, give it 110 per cent as we always do and I’m confident we can come away with another win - but it won’t be easy.”
Glasgow boss Stewart Dickson said: “We have guys who can race on that track, there’s no doubt about it, but we will need fast engines as it’s a fast, fast track. They’re handing out some skelpings to teams round there so we’re under no illusions about how tough it’ll be.
"It’s another big test for us, because they are genuine title challengers. They were one of my strong tips at the start of the season. Everybody will need to be on their game."
Meanwhile Redcar hand a debut to recent signing Danny Ayres as they host Scunthorpe at the Media Prima Arena.
Bears boss Jitendra Duffill says bouncing back from last week’s home defeat to Workignton is vital for his side, who are also boosted by the return of Ellis Perks.
Duffill said: “I think we look much stronger as a result and if Danny can produce the form I believe he is capable of we will have a very strong reserve pairing.
“The options available to me during the meeting will keep our top five on their toes as I won't hesitate to give them extra rides if it is likely to score us more points.
“We can't afford to drop any more points at home so we need to make sure we perform as expected and come away with three league points.”
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Redcar won at our place earlier in the season, and we’ll go there tonight to see if we can repay the compliment.
“It’s a former home track for both Josh Auty and Carl Wilkinson, while Tero Aarnio likes the place and it’s a big bonus to go there with him at reserve.”

SWINDON stage their first home National Trophy fixture tonight (Thursday) with the Isle of Wight visiting the Abbey Stadium.
Regular Robins reserve Zach Wajtknecht leads the Sprockets as they bid to complete a double over the Warriors after their recent win at Smallbrook.
The visitors are boosted by the availability of Nathan Greaves, who is set to ride in their next two fixtures with no clashes with his higher-league clubs.
Wajtknecht has welcomed his extra meetings, and said: “Stepping up to the Premiership helps you at National League standard, the one thing I want to work on is first bends and that will help at this level.
“I have everything set to the same standard now. The engines are good and I have found something I like, everything is the same, there is no changing anything throughout the season and it has been working.”
