GLASGOW made it six successive SGB Championship home wins by seeing off Berwick 54-38 at Ashfield.
The result moves the Tigers up to second place in the table, six points behind leaders Edinburgh with three matches in hand.
Aaron Summers (14) and Richard Lawson (13) won four races apiece for the Tigers, who were also encouraged by a 4+1 score from teenage reserve Jack Smith.
Former Glasgow man Nick Morris scored 13 from five rides for the Bandits, with reserve Jye Etheridge adding 9+2 at the end of a positive weekend.
Smith said: “It was a lot better from me. I enjoyed it a lot more and got round a lot better.
“It's my best score in this league so far. I reckon I was on the pace in my last two and could have got some points in those if I had made better starts.
“Berwick were missing a few riders but their team was still as strong as it could be - they've got some strong riders in there - and they did push us hard, but we managed to get the win in the end.”
Berwick boss Gary Havelock said: “It was a tough match to go into with so many guys down already, and it’s difficult, even with good guests, to get that same team spirit going that gets you wins.
“It was an extension of Berwick's poor luck as we just got ourselves back up and running then lose David (Howe) and Lewis (Bridger) - two of our top end powerhouse - and no one can really fill their shoes effectively.”
Newcastle overcame the absence of skipper Ludvig Lindgren, away on GP qualifying duty, to defeat Sheffield 48-42 at Brough Park.
Robert Lambert (13), Steve Worrall (12+3) and Ashley Morris (11) all scored heavily for the Diamonds, whilst the Tigers took the consolation of a league point to move them into the Championship’s top four.
That point was secured by a Heat 15 win for top-scorer Josh Grajczonek (12), who got the better of the home side’s powerhouse Lambert/Worrall combination.
Newcastle boss George English said: “We all knew Sheffield were going to be a hard prospect and we were proved to be correct as they fought with a desire to take a league win.
“But our lads dug deep when they had to and held them off for a fine win this evening.”
Sheffield manager Simon Stead said: “I’m very happy. We’ve gone to two really tough away tracks in the space of three days and come away with two league points.
“The boys gave it 100 per cent and I can’t ask for any more. They’ve done well to get two good results and I’m really pleased with them.
“We knew we needed a 3-3 from Heat 15, and Josh has already done that for us a couple of times this season. We put him on the best gate and he managed to get the job done for us which was fantastic.”
Meanwhile the KO Cup tie between Scunthorpe and Peterborough was abandoned after Heat 5 with the Scorpions 19-11 up after a heavy downpour hit the Eddie Wright Raceway, with efforts to recover the circuit proving in vain.

MILDENHALL defeated Plymouth 54-35 at West Row to move to within one point of the National League play-off places.
Track conditions were a talking point both during and after the encounter, with the Devils unhappy and the referee being called to the pits after Heat 5 and remedial work carried out.
Reserve Danno Verge racked up 11+3 from six rides for the Fen Tigers, who gained a comfortable win with Danny Halsey adding 10+2 and skipper Jon Armstrong 9+2.
Plymouth’s scoring was dominated by top two Steve Boxall (13) and new signing Adam Roynon (9), the latter winning his first three rides before falling in Heat 13.
Mildenhall boss Robert Henry said: “All six lads gave put in bags of effort today and covered Jordan’s (Jenkins) absence well.
“It is never easy covering the extra rides R/R causes and they handled it well especially when taking two on the trot.
“I think we dealt with the early conditions better than the opposition and as the meeting progressed we really imposed ourselves on Plymouth.”
Devils star Benji Compton said: “I was just pleased that every rider went home safe. The track was dangerous until we insisted that work was done on it.
“I honestly believe had this not happened someone could have been badly injured. We must thank the referee for coming down and discussing it with us and common sense prevailed in the end.”

JOSH Auty has re-considered his retirement decision and is set to resume his team place with Scunthorpe.
Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey made the announcement prior to their abandoned KO Cup tie with Peterborough on Sunday.
Auty said: “I just needed to get through a period of four days and get my head straight. I needed some time to sit down and reflect on things.
“I do wish I’d simply asked for some time out instead of telling everyone that I was going to retire.
“It was a rash decision to say I was going to retire, but we all say things we don’t mean. I just want to forget about the last week and move forward.”
Godfrey said: “I think we’ll now see the old Josh Auty back. Our team manager Dave Peet has spoken a lot to Josh over the last few days and I’ve spoken to him as well, and I think we’ll see Josh back to his usual self from previous seasons.
“Josh has a period of inactivity - a ban in other words - for 14 days, which starts from the date of the Newcastle meeting last Sunday when we used rider replacement for him.
“He can’t return within that time, which means his first meeting back will be against Sheffield at the Eddie Wright Raceway next Sunday.”

EASTBOURNE have announced Alex Spooner will not be joining the club.
The Eagles had named Spooner as part of a double change also featuring the return of Jake Knight last week, but they have now named Matt Saul as their new reserve.
The Arlington club also had a major injury scare on Sunday when skipper Georgie Wood was airlifted to hospital with a suspected broken pelvis after a grasstrack crash.
The evening, however, brought much better news as it was announced Wood had escaped serious injury.
