LEICESTER fought back from an early six-point deficit to finally record their second win of the SGB Premiership campaign against Somerset on Saturday.
Back-to-back 5-1s in Heats 4 and 5 gave the Rebels the advantage but the Lions dominated the race wins and clawed their way back into contention.
A 5-1 from Kim Nilsson and Danny King in Heat 13 put them in front, and the victory was secured by Lasse Bjerre’s success in the next race backed up by third place from Josh Bates.
Rebels guest Brady Kurtz then secured a league point for his side by winning Heat 15 after Josh Grajczonek had been penalised for touching the tapes.
Nilsson (12+2) dropped just one point from five rides with Bjerre (12) winning four of his five rides whilst King also scored 12. Kurtz collected 10 for the Rebels with Michael Palm Toft adding 8+2 on his debut and reserve Cameron Heeps working hard for 8+3.
Bjerre said: “It was tough at the start, especially after my second heat but we kept our heads up and stuck to the plan.
“All of the boys did well and it was great to win, especially at Leicester because we need to get results here.
“I am really happy, feel good about riding here on my new equipment and hopefully, I won’t be struggling any more. I am doing my best and the rest of the team is as well so we feel like there is more to come.”
Somerset boss Garry May said: “Things looked good for us early on when we opened up that six-point lead, but we weren’t able to capitalise on it, and with Leicester coming back at us as they did, it was always going to be difficult in the later heats with King and Nilsson riding well for them.
“Although we scored those two 5-1s, it was a bit disappointing that we didn’t provide another heat winner until Brady came up trumps for us in Heat 15.
“But that said, all credit to the boys, they stuck in there to pick up the majority of the minor places to ensure that we came away from Leicester with at least a league point to show for our troubles.”

BERWICK’S resurgence continued with a 53-40 win over Newcastle in the SGB Championship at Shielfield Park.
The result moved the Bandits to within one point of ninth-placed Scunthorpe, and was also a blow to the Diamonds’ hopes of breaking into the top four.
Heat-leaders Robert Lambert (17) and Steve Worrall (10) accounted for all but 13 of the visitors’ points, Lambert missing out only to home No.1 Nick Morris (12) in Heat 6.
But the Bandits, racing without the injured Lewis Bridger, had several heroes with reserve Jye Etheridge piling up 12+3 from seven rides, David Howe racing through the pain barrier for 11+2 and youngster Luke Ruddick collecting a race win on his way to four points.
Berwick boss Gary Havelock said: “The guys were fantastic to a man tonight! Each one of them deserve total credit for what wasn't just a win over our local rivals, but the manner in which it was done was so, so satisfying.
“They really wanted this win and had a team spirit that was as high as it could be, and that showed with some fantastic racing.
“This is how we were supposed to start the season back in March, but at least we're now doing what we are wanting from the guys.
“I want to mention the other heroes at Berwick Speedway. The guys who come at all times of the day - even early morning if needs be like 7.30 this morning - to put down our track covers. They are a brilliant team who deserve as much praise as the riders for they have saved five meetings this season now and that includes the last four on the trot.”
Newcastle manager George English said: “We again had high hopes and what we ended up was sheer disappointment and frustration with two of our lads taking 27 of our 40 points between them.
“Berwick, to be fair are having a resurgence and that's showing as they are more of a challenge now than earlier in the year, but our continued poor away form didn't help by any means, and it's a situation we have to rectify as soon as possible.”

SCUNTHORPE and Sheffield clash in local derby action in the SGB Championship at the Eddie Wright Raceway today (Sunday).
The Scorpions had the better of the derby encounters between 2012 and 2014 but that trend has been reversed in recent years and the Tigers have already won once in Lincolnshire this season.
Josh Auty returns to Scorpions’ colours, following the expiry of his 14-day-ban for taking some time out of the sport. Meanwhile, Nathan Greaves has been booked to guest for Josh Bailey, although Greaves received a knock at Ipswich on Thursday. For the visitors, Nathan Stoneman guests for Jack Parkinson-Blackburn at reserve.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I’m sure the Tigers will be expecting to win again, given the respective league positions of the two teams, and I’m sure plenty of their fans will make their way up the M18 hopeful of seeing another away win.
“But I’m optimistic about our chances.  Before the heavens opened last Sunday, we were performing really well - plus we have Josh Auty back in our ranks. What happened with Josh happened and it’s water under the bridge now.
“We’re looking forwards, not backwards, and after his break to get his head straight and sort a few problems out, I’m hopeful that we will get a fully refreshed and recharged Josh Auty back in the No. 5 race-jacket.”
Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “Everyone will be fired up for the derby, they are always great meetings and we certainly want to get another result.
“I found our last win at Scunthorpe hugely boosted the boys, our away performances have improved massively since that result with us having struggled on the road previously.
“The boys have responded brilliantly since then, we have got better and better with some strong results against stiff opposition last weekend.”
Meanwhile Peterborough, who have gone just over a month since their last victory, host Berwick at the East of England Arena.
The Panthers have endured a frustrating run of injuries, defeats and postponements but name a full-strength side including recent signing Chris Harris for the clash with the Bandits – who have Jake Knight guesting at reserve for Lee Payne.
Peterborough captain Ulrich Ostergaard said: “It's been tough for us lately, but we all believe we can still make the play-offs.
“We have to start showing it by putting in good performances and picking up the points we need.
“We're definitely all looking forward to a home meeting. It's almost a month since we last raced on our track. We know we need a result and we're aiming to get that while putting on some top racing for the supporters.”

BUXTON will look to move off the foot of the Travel Plus National League table when they host Mildenhall at Hi-Edge today (Sunday).
The Hitmen are level on points with the Isle of Wight, Stoke and Plymouth and could therefore climb three places if they can overcome the Fen Tigers.
The visitors, however, are on the verge of the play-off places, and a second away win of the season would see them overhaul Cradley and move into fourth spot.
Buxton boss Jason Pipe told the club’s website: “Mildenhall are a team that I tipped to do well this season and they are showing that already, and we must be on our guard on Sunday.
“They will be coming to Buxton full of confidence and to make it as hard as possible for us, with one or two of their riders having a liking for our track.
“Sunday sees us give a Buxton debut to Ryan Kinsley, who has come to us following King's Lynn Young Stars’ withdrawal from the league. Ryan is a rider I've always admired and I'm sure he will fit into the side straight away.”

THE British Youth Championship is back at Rye House today (Sunday) for the fourth round of the series.
It’s a rapid return to Hoddesdon as the Rockets also stepped in to run round 3 last month due to the unavailability of King’s Lynn.
British Youth boss Neil Vatcher said: “Again this weekend it is sure to be a great event with 33 riders contesting the three classes.
“In the 500cc class, last month’s winner and series leader Daniel Gilkes will be going all out for another win, but Drew Kemp and recent returnee from injury Kean Dicken will have something to say about that.
“The most exciting class of 2017 is the 250s, and again a great attendance with Leon Flint hoping to win for the third round in succession, but again he is bound to have his work cut out with the likes of Jason Edwards, Nathan Ablitt, Jordan Palin and the Thompson Twins competing to name but a few.
“The largest class is the 125s, and with the top three from last month, Corban Pavitt and the McGurk brothers, all competing riders like Luke Harrison, Mickie Simpson and Sonny Springett will have their work cut out just to make the final.”
