FIA World Rallycross Championship
The historic Circuit Trois-Rivières circuit, celebrating its 50th year, is the setting for round eight of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, the only trip across the Atlantic this season. Canada has traditionally played host to unpredictable racing as three different winners in as many years attest, with Sweden’s Timmy Hansen joining Petter Solberg (2014) and Davey Jeanney (2015) on the roll of honour last year. Although he has made it to every 2017 final so far, Hansen is currently in the midst of his longest winless spell since 2014, with compatriots Mattias Ekstrom and Johan Kristofferson combining to win seven of the last 11 races since then. Could the Peugeot man return to winning ways in Canada?

Australian Supercars
The popular Sydney Motorsports Park will play host to round nine of the championship, as the battle royale across the partisan Ford-Holden divide continues to take shape. In the blue corner, the underdog Dick Johnson Racing outfit has seen a dramatic upturn in fortunes since Roger Penske bought a controlling stake in the team in 2014, with Fabian Coulthard heading the points standings and new signing Scott McLaughlin contributing four wins of his own. But it wouldn’t be a Supercars title fight without Triple Eight, and despite a costly retirement for defending champion Shane van Gisbergen in Darwin, the factory Holden team – which represented Ford as recently as 2009 – have both cars in the hunt, with Jamie Whincup only 16 points behind despite having yet to win a race. Could that all change at a circuit where Whincup and Van Gisbergen shared the spoils last year?

FIA World Rally Championship
After a stretch of five straight gravel rallies, the tenth round of the WRC in Germany is only the third tarmac event of the year. Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville was the man to beat the last time the championship hit the black stuff back in Corsica and the Belgian also has a win to his name in Germany from 2014, but will have a fight on his hands to best championship leader Sebastien Ogier, who is gunning for his hattrick in the Rhineland. Without the requirement to sweep the road, as he has become accustomed to doing recent years, Ogier will be a real threat on the surface he grew up driving on, but can he become the first Ford driver to win the event since it joined the World Championship in 2002?

FIM World Motocross Championship
The FIM MXGP championship heads towards its thrilling climax in August, with three rounds remaining, including the return of Sweden after a year away. With defending champion Tim Gajser out of the running after injuring his shoulder, Tony Cairoli could clinch his ninth World title and go only one short of Stefan Everts’ all-time record, but will be hoping that Clement Desalle’s purple patch ends in time for his home round at Lommel. The Belgian has emerged as Cairoli’s closest challenger, taking back-to-back round wins in France and Russia to emerge as Suzuki’s best hope of the top division crown since fellow Belgian, Steve Ramon, broke through in 2007. Could Desalle delay Cairoli’s coronation, or even snatch the crown himself?

European Le Mans Series
With the introduction of a new breed of more potent, powerful and altogether more physical LMP2 cars, which came ever-so-close to winning outright at Le Mans, records will almost certainly tumble when the European Le Mans Series heads to Paul Ricard in August. Capable of managing speeds over 340 km/h on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans, the flat-out Signes right hander following the 1.8 km Mistral Straight in Le Castellet will separate the men from the boys, particularly when a mass of LMP3 and GTE cars from Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche are added into the mix… After a difficult second round of the ELMS at Monza, Silverstone winners United Autosport were boosted by a strong run to fifth overall at Le Mans and the best ELMS-entrant. Will the Ligier outfit be able to continue their momentum against the wave of Orecas and Dallaras, each boasting superior top-end speed? Elsewhere, the LMP3 and GTE title battles are finely posed. Ricky Capo and Erwin Creed took advantage of a nightmare weekend for Sean Rayhall and Jon Falb to give Norma it’s first ever win in LMP3 at Monza, but Rayhall and Falb’s stylish victory in the Le Mans-supporting Road to Le Mans race showed it was only a temporary blip. In GT, JMW Motorsport will hope to continue their dominant form from Le Mans, when Rob Smith’s 488 ended a lap clear of a field that included championship leaders TF Sport and defending champions Beechdean AMR.

FIA European Truck Racing Championship
The FIA European Truck Racing Championship receives a rapturous reception wherever it goes, but few crowds can compare to those that will gather to welcome two-time champion Norbert Kiss at the Hungaroring in August. Kiss delighted his home fans with two wins in 2015 and scored podiums in all four races last year, but the Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes has yet to get off the mark in 2017, with reigning champion Jochen Hahn and Adam Lacko taking three wins apiece from the opening eight races. Lacko’s treble at Misano has lifted him to the top of the standings, but Hahn’s two victories last year mean he will invariably be in the mix once again.

Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup
Celebrating its tenth year, the Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup is the established starting point for young riders hoping to make their mark on the motorcycling ladder and emulate the likes of Johann Zarco, Danny Kent and Brad Binder by becoming world champions. Riding on identical KTM 250cc 4-stroke Moto3 bikes for seven European rounds, these promising young talents will be hoping to impress the big team bosses and earn their shot at the big time for the following season. Third-year rider Aleix Viu made the best start to the season on home turf in Valencia, but will have Japanese rider Ai Ogura and local hero Filip Salač on his tail when the series heads to Brno in the Czech Republic and Austria’s Red Bull Ring.
