CRADLEY moved into the National League play-off places with a 53-37 win over Buxton at Monmore Green.
The Heathens answered boss Will Pottinger’s call for a professional display and secured a comfortable victory in a meeting containing some thrilling action when the top riders met.
Cradley skipper Tom Perry got the better of former Heathens favourite Max Clegg in Heat 4, only for Clegg to take revenge in Heats 13 and 15 – the former race having seen a three-man pile-up after Danny Ayres fell when in front of Clegg and Perry.
Perry (12+1) and Ayres (10) top-scored for the hosts with Clegg on 14 for the Hitmen, dropping just a single point to the opposition.
Pottinger said: “We always knew not to take Buxton lightly, because they have some good riders and plenty of track knowledge with Max and Matt (Williamson).
“We were always wary of that, but we weren’t complacent and we took the match by the scruff of the neck from the start.
“We got some advantages in the first few heats which set the tone for the rest of the meeting, and we’ve got over Sunday’s defeat quickly so everyone is feeling good.”
Meanwhile Kent had two full maximum men in their emphatic 60-22 win over the Isle of Wight at Central Park.
Guest Ben Morley and in-form Jack Thomas both scored 12 points as the Kings dominated against a Warriors side who hit further trouble when No.1 Ben Wilson crashed out of Heat 5 and sustained a suspected broken leg.
Visiting reserve Alex Spooner was also withdrawn after two early falls, whilst the meeting was curtailed one race short due to the curfew after an aborted attempt to run Heat 15 when the Kings’ previously unbeaten Nathan Stoneman was disqualified.
